Technical Problem: Rear seat lock - my6thgen.org

So I have been ignoring a problem for about a year and now that im putting together a audio set up I need to figure it out. The button on the rear deck you press to bring the rear seat down doesn't work. I can use the cloth latch from inside the trunk but considering I wont have access to it after the audio install I really need to fix this. I have tried using the key to lock/unlock it w/ no success. It almost seems as If I press the button its not doing anything. I have tried to muscle the seat down as I repeatedly press hoping it may catch w/ no luck. Has anyone gone through this?

So are none of the two sides open, or is this just one side?

They both open when using the pull strap in the trunk. Pulling down the seat from the interior of the car is the problem. I believe the button only drops the passenger side section in general. Either way it seems I have no connection via the button. Prior to posting this I searched various Maxima forums w/ no luck. Their is a similiar thread on here from 2012 but a resolution was never posted. As im leaning to mechanism failure im still hoping I can fix myself. Im actually hitting a yard this weekend and gonna pull one out if possible.

If its possible for you, just follow the linkage, and look for any disconnected part, good luck!

Took apart the lock and I see that the base is broken.

I have my brother inlaw hitting a yard today to pull one and see what is broke off.

Alright, hopefully this can be helpful for anybody in the future. Pulled a working lock out of a junker and this is how it looks intact ...

As you see the extended front is what pushes the latch down to fold the rear seat in. Stupid design in my opinion. We did realize my key would not lock this donor lock so by removing the snap metal ring the grey plastic base comes off. A simple switch of the bases and shabam... i'm back in business. Any questions feel free to ask. Im sure seeing the flawed design may explain why some people experience this problem. You would never know how it worked unless removing and if you remove it and it looked like mines you would have no clue what to look for if the piece wasn't to be found.

Yep , made in the cheap , but sell their rides pretty expensive for parts that are real cheaply done / made . But Nissan s not alone like that sadely .
