Default Squeaking Belts When Moist Out

What's up everyone? Whenever it is moist out or after it rains, it sounds like one of my belts is squeaking. It squeaks for a few minutes and then subsides as I drive. Does any one know what the issue could be and should I change the belts? I have an '07 with about 80,000 miles. Thanks.

80k miles. I would say you got your use out of the belts and it is time to change them. There are two belts. One for the power steering and another for the alternator and air conditioner. The one squeaking is likely the one fore the alternator/air conditioner. That one is not too hard to change on your own. But the power steering is a pain because of one bolt in a very cramped space.

Agreed! I changed my belts at just under 33K miles due to squealing. After replacement, I was still getting some squeal from the AC belt when first starting the car. I got back under there 2 additional times and added a little more tension to the belt each time...all squeals gone now!

I think belts may only be good for 30k miles at a time so you're due.

If they are the original belts then I'm sure they need to be changed. Better safe than sorry, the one for the water pump is vital. If it breaks while you're driving you could ruin your engine. Go to car X , or midas and get a free insp on your belts...

When I had mine looked at, the dealer said for me to come in at 60K. It would be 160 parts and labor and that's not too bad if you don't have the means to do it yourself.

Ray, all your quote posts are jacked up lately. You're typing your reply in between the quoted text instead of after it. Just a heads up...

Yeah the service manual says to set the tension when the belt is cold . I changed mine b/c my alternator went bad and I still have to add more tension to it . I think my car had 82k on it at the time which was way overdue . If you have'nt changed your belts yet go take a look at them .

That's exactly what mine was doing. My OEM belts were doing this, and I was at 30k miles, so I just replaced them both. The new belts started doing this shortly thereafter. I was afraid of cranking the tension too tight and damaging any of the components, so I just initially set the tension where I thought it felt tight enough. I then got back under there 2 additional times and added a little more until the squealing stopped.
