Default Dirty Transmission Fluid Going To Lead To Further Problems??

Hi,

I am new to this site as I am a new owner of a 2006 Maxima. I purchased the vehicle from CarMax with 111,000 miles. I noticed there was a little jerking but not bad. Went away after Sea Foam. I just checked the transmission fluid and I'd say it is bad? Smelled burnt but not terrible burnt. If I change the fluid now is that okay or is it maybe too late at this point? :/ Can post a better picture tomorrow when it is day time out.
I doubt there was ever a transmission fluid was ever changed judging from how hard it was just to get the dipstick out.

*I don't know a ton about these things, but I do search Google/Threads as much as I can*

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

The 5sp is notorious for its problems, did the dealer give you any kind of warranty?

I know :/ I started reading those, I am not noticing any major problems ATM that's why I was wondering if it isn't too late if I change it now.

Yes CarMax has a 30 day limited warranty, not sure if this is covered yet.. it better be that's DIRTY.

Also I am noticing squeaking from the front of the car while driving (research has led me to believe it's the strut?)

Thanks for helping

What CarMAX did you get it from? Hopefully you didnt get it at the Wednesday auction on cars they buy from owners.

I didn't know they had different CarMax places, I got it on a Saturday so I don't believe it was from that. Carfax showed one owner but there was an extra 500 miles put on by someone that worked at the dealer I'm assuming. Most likely it's not too late I just don't get how a car that is infamous for tranny problems, the retarded owner wouldn't keep the transmission fluid changed..?

Most people outside of maximas don't know of the transmission issues with the car. I would definitely do a flush immediately. It's never really too late. It's better late than never. Recs say flush every 60k. You should be coming up on flush #2. Lol.

Lol I saw that, I called carmax and told them I don't think this transmission fluid has ever been changed, they said they'd cover it but I have to wait until next week and drop the damn car off?! The idiot went as far to tell me "oh some transmission fluid is supposed to be brown" ?!?!? Lol what an idiot. I might as well do a flush myself to make sure it gets done right.. Or should I wait and have them do it. With a flush I have to buy a lot more fluid than just changing it correct? I wonder how much that'll cost

Thanks for the help so far guys!

I don't even know where my tranny fluid stick is!! I wish my jerkin issue was due to the fluid but since my tranny has less than 10k miles on it I don't think it's the actual issue why mine jerks AGAIN

to do an actual flush, you need a machine to suck it all out. the only thing you can really so yourself is a drain and fill.

Bummer, the fact that I have to wait a week and trust carmax to actually flush it doesn't make me happy lol

i dont like that carmax, they were to service the car before selling it. all their cars are to go thru a certified inspection, did they offer you the extended warranty with car? Sorry to hear about tranny, i bought 2 cars with no problems. good luck and while they have your car they give you a loaner.

Thank You...I always thought about checking right there, the only thing that stopped me has been that stupid "ONLY NISSAN..." sticker

Right the guy insisted to argue that "oh I'm sure the fluid was changed.."
That's good news they give a loaner! My main concern was that I was going to have to find a ride to work after dropping it off,
Thank you for all the help so far :D I really appreciate it!

The tranny actually isn't having problems right now it is just that the fluid is dirty as hell and that should have been changed before I bought the car.
Not sure if I got an extended warranty to be honest. I will check
