Default Cooling System - Leaks/Overheating

Please I urge everyone to check thier radiator cap!!!! My radiator just split today and it was all due to a malfunctioning radiator cap. What happen is the gasket on the bottom of the cap swells up and blocked the pressure/fluid from getting through which caused the radiator to explode. Verve provided me with the TSB (Reference NTB04-018) for it and it states what to look for and what to do about it.

I am tired and frustrated to say the least. I have taken plenty of pictures and will post them sometime tomorrow. Please stay tuned.......

Please be more specific. What model year? Is it the factory original Radiator & Cap?
Thank you,

Sorry man. It's an 04 5sp auto. To my knowledge it is the original cap and radiator. I have owned the car for 4yrs and got it with 37k now with 129k.

Thank you,
I have the same car, I will check mine tomorrow. I appreciate the heads up. I hope other members will let you know if they had similar problems. Your car is still very young by the mileage. Everyone tells me this car should go for over 200,000 miles.

The gasket is not supposed to get that big and becuse it did, it cause a clog and build up of pressure that eventually caused the rad to burst open.

NOW FOR THE REPLACEMENT!!!!!!

Nice is that a Mishimoto radiator? Looks like it. Can't see the wording too well.

True, you should be set for awhile now.

Tell us more about that set up, cost, model #'s, where to find, etc. So those fans replace the factory ones?, can you use the factory fans?

Well the shop that I deal with VERVE MOTORSPORTS contacted Mishimoto (Located in DE) and spoke to them about the rads. At first Dennis wasn't sure it would work because some Maxima's trannys do not get cooled buy the coolany. Well our gens do and he didn't realize that untill he took out my stock. I got the rad for $280 and the fans ran me $110 both. I think you can still use the factory fans but hey, why not go with both since I was able to. Looks a lot better installed if you ask me. I have a lot more space between the rad and the motor too. You can go to MISHIMOTO.com to see a price listing for the fans and rad. BTW, I got the 14' fans but you can get smaller ones for a little cheaper.

Anybody know the effects of aftermarket cooling fans being used without a shroud? My Mustang would NOT cool properly without a shroud being used. It didn't matter what fans I put on there...I went through a couple different ones before I found something that would actually work.

Which is absolutely correct. They have an account with them. I got lucky because I bought one a few days prior and then he said for a little bit more money I could get the aluminum one. NO BRAINER. As they ordered the rad, i was told about the fans..... GET THEM! GOT THEM, LOVE THEM.
