Default 2004 @ 80k oil change

Hey guy just recently bought it used @ 77k.

This is my first car with low mileage compared to my old cars which are 200k and more. lol

I really don't know what type of oil to use. I checked the dip stick and it was the color of light brown coffee. Read many discussions and the benefits of synthetics. I checked under my hood and there seems to be a little smudges of oil around the engine around where the alternator sits. I;m thinking it's gasket leaks. Its not that bad though, I'm afraid if I was to use synthetics i would make the leak worse. Am I wrong?? or is it okay??

Plus this car has 80k on it, and I do a lot of highway miles.
this is my first maxima and I love this car the day I sat in it. So I'm really looking forward to maximizing it's life span, any suggestions?? Thanks!!

I use Mobil1 synthetic from AutoZone and do it myself. You should be fine switching to synthetics. See if you can track down the leaks. I know, on the older cars, you could always tighten down the valve covers a little tighter and that would solve the valve cover leak if it wasn't too bad.

lol, anyways I read a lot on the 0w30 synthetics which prove to saves fuel and protects. does anyone recommends this? or have any other options? I actually think that it might be too thin to protect anything. Are there any 5w30 synthetics that any here uses that improves gas mileage? and if so what are your expriences?

I'm around 75k, 04, and use synthetic all the time. Seems to work well for me. But then again, the engine doesn't email me when the oil is low also. So wtf do I know. lmao :D
