First check your oil level. If thats ok, then start searching for timing chain tensioner repair.

OK i'll take a look in a minute.could bad injectors also make a ticking sound?i listened yesterday and the ticking is coming more from the back side of the engine (firewall side) i think when i said the pulleys the sound is echoing towards them.

No, engine diagnostic will not tell you unless timing chain has jumped a tooth. In that case your engine would run horrible/and have difficulty starting.
Another thing that could be ticking is the fuel dampner located on the fuel rail that connects injectors....
A stethoscope will help you to pinpoint the source of the noise. If you dont have that you could use a broom stick next to your ear or a long handle screwdriver. (☆Just use caution around moving parts☆)
Timing chain tensioner is very distinctive but I guess to an untrained ear it can be hard to distinguish. Post a video if you can or youtube maxima timing chain noise and compare your symptoms.
