Default Replaced Rear Wheel Bearings - Now ABS Light Is On WTF?!?

So I just replaced my rear wheel bearings, as the passenger side was squalling loud as hell, and now my ABS light is on and my ABS isn't working... WTF?!?

I gave the dealer my VIN and everything. The Part Number they sent me was 432027Y000 which is a hub and wheel bearing assembly w/abs. I don't know where to start

when you replaced the wheel bearing , I bet they did not clean the sensor,

the abs sensors are a magnetic pick up on the ends , that reads the hub teeth.

you need to pull them out with the 10mm ( 12mm) bolt and clean them out with brake cleaner and cloth.

re-install the sensor , your problems should be resolved

SO here is the response I got back from the dealer:
"Hello Joseph I asked one of our technicians here he said these sensors are very fragile and more than likely it was damaged during the switchover he said when they do them here in the shop they usually quote the sensor with the repair because they can never tell if they will work until they get them done. thanks "

"the drivers rear is number 47901-7Y000 it is $164.96 the passenger rear is 47900-7Y000 it is also $164.96"

OUCH! I hope I can just pull them out and clean them... I did not unplug them before I replaced the hub and wheel bearing assemblies, was this wrong of me?

Perhaps one was unplugged during the removal/install procedure...

No potato! I took the sensors out, cleaned em up nice and reinstalled them only to find that the ABS light still comes on. I know I wasn't rough with the wheel bearing install so they shouldn't have gotten damaged...

Perhaps the dealer is right, they are EXTREMELY fragile. BE PREPARED!

... Oh yea and they aren't unplugged either...

I'll have to check that out Raz thanks. Are they reliable? Have you purchased those before?

I will add one more thing to this dilemma. Yesterday, as I was leaving work, I realized that until the ABS actually shut off (and the ABS light illuminated) the brake system was acting funny... sort of like the ABS was trying to actuate but didn't know exactly how. When I depressed the brake pedal, I could hear a loud, almost grinding noise that sounded like ABS brakes being actuated but it was a random on and off and on and off... not like normal ABS brakes being actuated.

When the ABS light came on after a few minutes of the car being started, and the ABS system was deactivated, it went away completely and I was back to normal brakes. It happened again this morning as I drove into work... Really odd operation for a sensor being bad in my opinion but then again I don't know anything about ABS systems...

Before I go drop $300 on the the rear sensors... does anybody know of a way to verify that those are the sensors that are bad?--- just thinking about a fluke that the front right went bad at the same time as changing my rear wheel bearings. I did change the front wheel bearings and CV axles not too long ago...

Any real mechanic should have a scanner that allows them to read ABS codes. Make sure its actually the rear sensors.

So check this out. I took it to a shop, it's actually still there at the moment, but they ran the diag and told me that the Right Rear ABS sensor is reading incorrectly.

This is the interesting part... there is a TSB on this issue ( NTB07-016b ) that discusses the exact issue. Since they already have the back end tore apart I told them to just go ahead and perform the TSB and well see if that fixes it. It's pretty interesting you should check it out.

For anyone else with this issue, it MAY not be the ABS sensor like the dealer will tell you it is for sure. It could very well be this TSB instead. Try it first!

I'll let you know of the outcome when I hear back from the shop later today.

Thanks for the heads up. I am preparing for a wheel bearing replacement myself. Figured I would replace them and go with extended studs to prepare for future wheels plans.

Default Re: Replaced Rear Wheel Bearings - Now ABS Light Is On WTF?!?

Problem NOT FIXED YET!!

So I had the sensors verified. They are both operating normally. The right rear side is the culprit and there is the TSB I reviewed but have not performed. The shop told me that the TSB is designed to allow for proper drainage of water behind the bearing and hub assembly as there is a huge problem with corrosion behind there. Cutting a notch in the knuckle should not fix the problem... but of course the Nissan dealer is telling me that the TSB will fix it so try that first.

I guess this weekend I am going to grind out the notch like the TSB calls for and if that doesn't fix it I will swap the wheel bearing and hub assembly from the right to the left and see if that changes anything. The only problem there is I will have to RE-VERIFY with a scan tool that the left side is now the problem.

OR just take the right side off and exchange it at the dealer and see if that fixes it...

After reading all this , and going back to your first post.

I must ask , did you replace the wheel bearing with a OE product ?

I think I may have overlooked everything and forgot to ask the important question.

I know sometimes the aftermarket hubs may be a little off , the teeth on the hub , different millimeters off , ETC.

normally I inspect the new item and old together to make sure I don't waste time, and Im only going by your word since you or your mechanic installed them.

just something to think about or re-check.

:::UPDATE:::
I finally got the dealer to swap out my right rear wheel bearing. Problem solved.

The dealer said that they have never had a bad wheel bearing and hub assembly before. I agree that this is probably a very limited issue but in my case, the fault was the OEM bearing and hub assembly.
