Default Rear Wheel Drive 6th Gen

Does anyone out there know of anyone in the world doing a rear wheel drive conversion on a 6th gen??? I know many will say its impossible, but it is doable with time and money. If there is, can info/pics be posted too???

A ford focus was converted to RWD years ago and they dropped a 5.0 V8 in it. Find you a shop that thinks they can do it to the maxima and feed them some money.

IMHO it'd be super sick shit but just cost unbelievable money. But as far as I know it's never been done or tried on a 6th gen.

There's no such a thing as not possible. With money and knowledge, you can get just about anything done. I have contemplated this idea and the donor car I was looking at was a 350Z. Will it be worth investing anywhere from 20K to 50 K to do this, probably not and why it has not been done.

Just buy G35, 37, 350-370Z and put the savings of the conversion into somebolt on mods. To be honest, i dont think its worth it, waste of money but hey its your money. If it was easily done wiht a relatively low cost then maybe but I dont see that being less than 30K easy.

Easiest way to go about it would be Infiniti M drivetrain...but the bill would be steep.

On the Max org Maximakid converted a 4thgen to a RWD with a RB26DET. The project is almost complete its just that the injectors are shot and other things. The body was reinforced and lots of modification was made, like for instance the rear suspensions was moved to a different position, the gas tank was changed, etc. I'll post the thread link. The thing is that its going to cost a lot. Why not just buy an Infiniti G35 sedan, saves the headache.

We're talking about a 6th gen, not 4th gen. Totally different platforms.

Well, if the 350Z rear end can be adapted (with minor issues) to fit the 6th gen, it maybe fabricating the mounts for the longitudinal direction of the motor (wonder if the 350Z's mounts can be used?), getting the driveshaft from 350Z longer, shouldn't have to lengthen the wiring harness. The gas tank can be removed, usage of a fuel cell type setup in trunk shouldn't be too hard, the 'tunnel' is there for the driveshaft, maybe rerouting the exhaust setup that runs thru there, welding plates to support the rear-end to body, does this sound like too much???. Yeah, it'll run some cash, but not as much as we may think, if we get the resources lined up-maybe I'll just start sourcing from now....

The point is its going to be a lot of modification. And a lot of reinforcement. Since the engine will be facing front to back and the transmission will be switch its gonna cost a lot to build. Its possible but it takes serious planning.

to save yourself some time here is some things

FWD VQ casting is WAY differnt than a RWD as far as the Motor mount location.

What issue is your going to have is having a FWD bolt to a 6spd , the Starter will NOT FIT.

We've been down this road, a year ago , we have a FWD VQ and RWD Tranny about to go into a s10 chevy truck,

We found out the issue when bolting it up , also the timming chain is differnt so the location of the alternator is also going to be a issues.

As im telling you guys find a M35 , everything underneath will almost bolt up.

The Rear sub frame cradle will bolt up to the Maxima and massging or relocation the fuel tank.

Ive already had the M and A34 side by side on a lift.

Its almost like Nissan wanted to make the MAX a RWD.

your better off finding a M35 ,

there is enough room to run the exhuast and a driveshaft under the A34.

Again been down this road before, only thing missing is more Cash and finding a collision M35 for parts.

its alot involeded but it can be done , if my 6spd swap was do-able so will RWD.

If it was just that easy. Just the donor parts will run about 10K, fabrication, Have to extend the drive shaft, maxima is longer, Motor mounts will have to be relocated, firewall would have to be changed to compensate the transmission, new hangers for the exhaust, and a lot more stuff that pops up while doing it. It time and lots of money for sure.
