Default Power Steering Gone!

As the title say, my power steering is out. Im in Florida till August and apparently it rains EVERY F%$#ING day here lol. Well my bottom plastic engine cover was off and in my trunk due to it dragging on the floor(putting it back on asap) I went in to get my AC checked at AAMCO and figured id ask how much it was to replace a power steering pump as that's the first thing that came to mind. Guy told me it was probably the water from the rain that had something to do with it and not neccessarily the pump which made sense. Did some research and I think I have a "glazed belt."

Question: Is it the serpentine belt that would need replacing? Maybe the tensioner? would this be a DIY job? I love to work on my own car whenever possible. If its a straightforward job im not gonna pay someone $200 to do it. I've looked for Maxima specific info on this and havent found any. Just curious.

Side note- AC is out need a new compressor. lol one repair after the next ill never be able to do mods.

Thanks guys!!

It really depends how mechanically inclined you are. From what I've seen, changing the belts is 50/50. Some say it's easy to do at home, but I am one of the ones who preferred a mechanic to do it.

It's really just up to you.,,

^^ exactly. If you have experience then it should be ok. There is a write up on the forum.

If your AC compressor is on its way out, get it fixed ASAP. The longer you run it the more trash you put in your system and then you'll have to replace the whole system.

I'm going to change it myself. Got my power steering back about 90% only a tinsy bit stiff. Just PB Blasted the belt as it ran and that did the trick. Drained and replaced the power steering fluid for good measure.

The pivot bolt that you have to loosen is a pain in the ass to get to. It is on the back side of the power steering pump on the engine side. Very tight spot to get into and get the leverage needed.

dude that was the WORSE thing you do ,

do not ever spray WD-40 or PB blaster on the BELTS,

only silicone spray.

I have a quick easy way to change that power steering belt , in less than 8 mins once the main belt is off.

and yes the weather has been insane down here, im floating in my5thgen daily ( having semi bald tires dont help either )
