Default My Max Has Issues

Well, finally took it to the dealer for a check up. I need the following...

Front Left CV Boot - torn and leaking - $325

Front Right CV Boot- is missing from the car. - $325

Drive belts are badly cracked - $155

Front lower Engine mount is badly torn. - $525

They said my Axle could break and cause more problems. I know this is the result of using progress springs on everyday roads. I put them on in 2007. Wheels constantly rub the wheel wells. The car has lots of power and my only complaint was it was riding very rough and turns kinda funny. When I come to a stop it sounds like something is shifting foward. They said the hard shifting could be from the mounts shifting back and forth

Thats a pretty heavy list but surprising about the status of your boots though. How many miles do you have?

I replaced both my axles (as part of my maintenance) for $100/each and $50 labor for both.

Drive belts are badly cracked - $155

Have your mechanic buy the belts from the dealer at Mechanic price.. WAYYYY CHEAPER, and labor isn't much on that.

Front lower Engine mount is badly torn. - $525

Get ahold of Mr. Dolla for the front engine mount. Dealer price is $160-ish for the part, it's a lot cheaper through him and should cost more than $70-80 labor for that, if not less.

Answers in red. All this shouldnt cost you as much as dealer quoted. I did all this recently to maintain the car, and that's how I did it.

87K miles. Is that normal? Only work ever done to the suspension was springs installed and tires. Did someone try to kill me?

If you can get the car to me, I can do a LOT better. What year is your car? I priced up what you listed through Rock Auto, and you're well under $400 for parts. I can probably get most of the parts from my buddy at Autozone, and you'd have a lifetime warranty on just about all of the stuff too. Like I said, if you can get the car to me, I can do the brakes, half shafts and belts...I've never done an engine mount on a Maxima, but it can't be all that difficult.

I'm not a mechanic, but I play one on TV!...Seriously...I'm not a mechanic, but I've always done all of my own repairs, unless it's a warranty issue. I've got a 60 gallon compressor and air tools in the garage. My father is an ASE certified mechanic, so if I ever have an issue with anything, he's always willing to help out.

I pulled the 5.0/302 engine out of my Mustang numerous times in my garage. I rebuilt the top end of the motor myself. I've done axles and wheel bearings on a couple different cars. I've done a heater core on my Taurus (had to pull the whole dash out), motor mounts on my Taurus, front wheel bearings. I've done brake jobs on more cars than I can count. I've done lower intake gaskets on a Chevy mini-van...that was a lot of fun. I did shocks/struts/springs on my Maxima, painted calipers, taillights...I'm not ASE certified, I'm a police officer, but I know how to do vehicle maintenance. The stuff you need done isn't rocket science.

I was informed by my buddy at Autozone, that they are now making their own CV halfshafts (Duralast), and they have a lifetime warranty. I can call him Monday and price your parts if you want.

Whats the difference from a cv boot and a cv axle. NTB said I needed the whole cv axle?

The CV boot is the rubber boot that goes over the CV joint/knuckle on the CV axle. If the boot gets ripped/torn/removed, then dirt/debris will get into the CV joint and it will go bad, causing you to have to replace the axle. The CV axle/CV halfshaft is the same thing.

Is that wear & tear normal for a stock shocks/struts & progress setup? I get no rub at all.

Cause the dealer said its the inner cv boot but replacing the whole thing is better. They also said my car had "major issues" like it was garbage or something. He said but it "looks good". I didn't think anything major was going on. The car stills open a can of ass whoop with no problem but a rough ride. This is why I hate taking my car to the dealer.

I have no idea why it rubs. Front only. I only hear it when backing in reverse.

If you're up for the road trip, I can guarantee you that your total won't be anywhere near $1000...if you want me to price what I can get the parts for and ship them to you, I'll do that for you too...whatever I can do to help you out. I'd be willing to meet you partway, but I have no way to transport the compressor/tools.

Man, I really appreciate your help. There is one member from here thats trying to help. He traded for a G37. Anyway, I'll see what his shop is going to say but I'm sure I'll need a good deal on parts. If all else fails, I'll consider driving to Ohio.

looking at this thread i am thinking that the progress drop is harsh on the above repairs.

since last month ive replaced both axels, mounts and i just replaced rear passenger hud assembly today!

all in all you can do these repairs yourself with hand tools and save yourself some serious money!

i would however tho have the front mount and belts replaced at a shop if your not the driveway mechanic

if youve done your supension mods yourself then your more than capable of replacing both axels for just the cost of parts for about $200.00

i could guide you over the phone for those
