Im not sure why everyone believes the computer...

You know you're not getting 41mpg,right? My daughter has a 4 cylinder Toyota and she averages about 32mpg. If you're getting 27mpg combined consider yourself lucky. Ive never done the math, but Im thinking Im around 23 combined.

I try not to Believe it but , I reset it often and average around that all the time 41 was the highest I've seen it, on highway using a lot of cruise control, plus a full talk I can get almost 600 miles . I believe it might be off by some but im probably around 30 or maybe 32

I believe from the factory they were rated at 32mpg hwy. Like I said if you can maintain 27 combined thats really good.

I never understood the computers not only in our cars, but others. Mine would say I had an average speed of 27 mph...thats when I was doing 100 miles a day,65+ were freeway.

When I drive conservatively, I get 25mpg from city and highway mixed.

When I step on it, I think I get 20mpg. And since I often step on it, that is what I get, 20mpg.

WHAT??????????

Are you serious? When I fill up my gas tank and drive conservatively, I get 400 miles out of my tank. But when I step on it, I get 310 miles.

And I have intake spacers, heavier tires (255/40/19) and have the +2 timing done. These, should bring down my mpg a bit. I don't know if you have same as me. If you don't you should be getting the same or better mileage.

I think someday, I will take off the spacers and undo the +2 timing. I think the car stock is truly awesome as it is. Soon, I will do that when I have the money.

Also, make sure you have changed your cabin filter, air filter and maybe do like me and put 36psi on all tires. Do all these and drive conservatively after a fill up till empty. You should see an increase in your mpg.

Dead serious lol! With my oem 17's and worn tires I got 16.5

With my 19s on, I got 19mpg at 40psi. But I dont to wear my tires at unevenly at 40psi because I drive 40 miles daily. Right now I'm at 36psi I think, have to check again. Just changed air filter yesterday. I've been getting 17-18 past few weeks. City driving is horrible. When I go see my parents in Jersey, I avg 25mpg which is dam awesome, with AC and passengers.

Hi fellas,

I averaged about 31 mpg in long run on highway and about 18mpg city. Just keep in mind that if you reset the computer, the first 30 minutes of the numbers would be higher than what our car actually averages and that's because the computer announces the mpg from the time it's reset on short intervals and the first number is the instant mpg and after that the interval periods grow and the computer averages the intervals to show you the almost accurate number which I found to be true. I got 460 miles from 18 gallons of fuel when I was driving to school everyday on highway 101 in LA which is about 25 mpg.

Fun fact: If you have a long down slope, like the one at the end of I-5 to I-99, if you reset the computer on top and never push the gas pedal all the way through the down slope (my car maintained the 65mph speed all the way down without need to use gas pedal) the first number that computer will show is going to be 99.99mpg

The reason is that when you don't push the gas pedal the computer literally cut's off the gas until the engine rpm hits the stall zone which is around 1200 rpm when the ecu starts putting gas into the chambers. that's why the number on the screen comes 99.99mpg because it has not used one drop of fuel in that window of time.

Just changed air filter yesterday. I've been getting 17-18 past few weeks. City driving is horrible. When I go see my parents in Jersey, I avg 25mpg which is dam awesome, with AC and passengers.
Wow! 40psi sounds high. You must just be bouncing when you hit a pot hole. Try 36psi and see. And I hope your tires hopefully have the same wear and hopefully same brand and size. And do reset it every time you fill up. Maybe you do a lot of city driving, that is why you get such low numbers, but they are too low.

Oh, I just thought of something. Do you use PREMIUM? If not, then I see why. Believe it or not, my experience is premium gives me a bit better mpg than regular. And car performs better with premium. I use only premium gas.

Yes, it does. Driving at sea level will reduce necessary fuel injection, yielding more efficient fuel usage and lower quarter times. Elevation affects air density, which has a large influence on throttle response. The accelerator pedal in MAF cars controls the air intake; the ECU itself determines how much fuel to inject. This means that throttle position has the largest influence on fuel economy, then engine revs and so forth.

I personally do very well on 93 octane only. Highway driving from 1k to 1'500 feet will yield anywhere from 31-32 MPG for me; considering I have near 100'000 miles never been Seafoam-ed, luggage in the trunk and my air intake is some type of black from never being changed.

If the Maxima has a 16 gallon tank + 4 gallons for reserve, then I am able to go just over 500 miles on one tank before I start to dip into the reserve part. I've tested this by recording how much I fuel up in succession. I've personally gone 490 miles, from Booton HESS to a BP station just outside of Columbus, using just under 15.5 gallons of 93 octane fuel; that was with bathroom breaks and idling in traffic for over half an hour outside of Allentown waiting for a deadly accident to clear in that crappy corridor.

When I'm home, I get over 27 MPG city. I'll replace the air intake with a CAI eventually...
