Default Keep My 6thgen...or Trade It In?

Ok, heartbreak in Indy. My warning lights (brake light and abs light) were the demonspawn of two problems; a faulty wheel speed sensor and a watchamacallit that does the brake pistoning when ABS is activated. I was offered 3 choices- help me decide.
1) Keep the car as-is.
2) Pay $1850 to have it repaired
3) Choose another car from the dealership of a similar price.

What would you do?

Okay, were you the member that had the opportunity to have the dealer buy back your car?

It seems to be in great condition except for the aforementioned problems. ABS no longer functions and I have to stare at a red warning light and an orange information light when driving. I found that the brake fluid was very, very low just a few days after the dealership gave it their seal of approval...so either they did not check it (likely) or it has a nasty leak somewhere. I am inclined to believe the former.

The dealer hasn't offered to buy it back, just exchange it. They don't have any other 6th Gens with a manual.

I did not buy the warranty; the dealer offered these options out of good will. They aren't obligated to do anything.

I would take it to a trusted independent mechanic, or one of those companies that does inspections for people that want to know the condition of their car before making a purchase. I don't know what they charge in your area. Usually around $100.00 to $175.00?

It will be money well spent if you like this car.

They will hopefully be able to give you a clearer picture of any problems with the car.

If it is nothing more than the problems you described, ask the independent mechanic what he thinks the repairs should cost. You will then know if the dealer is fair or not.

Do this tomorrow. This dealer is not going to keep his offer on the table very long.

I would not trade the car because of those issues, they are minor and I guarantee you that it will not cost half that if you find a good independent mechanic.

I know it is a totally different car but can't be that much different.... I have a 2003 Ford ExploDER that I just had a ABS sensor replaced and after the computer was reprogramed and done out the door it only cost me about 150. If I understand the issue right DEFFINATELY take it to an independant mech and pay for the repairs and keep the car. Don't know if it is a Nissan dealership but NEVER take their price as is.... own opinion is they are WAY TO PROUD OF THE SERVICE SHOP. Quick example is I too just bought an 05 6sp knowing the cruise control didn't work but before I would buy I wanted them to diagnose and quote the repair. It is a switch and they are asking 500. Went to my mech with the part number needed (that Nissan just gave me) and I'm looking at 200 installed. Dealership near me charges 125-150 an hr depending on what it is. Thats just insane if you ask me.

Keep the car!!

First of all its a 6 speed so thats a plus. Didn't the dealer give you a 30 day warranty or was it an as is. This had to be a problem that they should have noticed and fixed before selling you the car. In my eyes they seem very dishonest and would have a mechanic go and look at the car further.

Gentlemen thank you for your input. I have slept on it and decided that, unless they have a gorgeous exact copy of my car (minus the issues mentioned) I'm driving my baby off the lot and giving her some TLC. My dad (a career mechanic) nearly poo'ed himself when I mentioned this to him. Had he been nearby, he probably would have smacked me, as I'm sure many of you felt when you read my original post. Because the weather here SUCKS, I don't have to take a PT test and will instead rush off to get my car.

THIS, but after reading the rest of your posts. i would definitley go to a mechanic and see what else is wrong as thunder advised, then take it back to the dealer and have them PAY OR FIX THIS. you should not have to pay for this after what 15 days of ownership. keep us posted.

PS. was this a Nissan dealer or a small mom and pop shop. if it was a nissan dealer, i would definitely write nissan corporate.

It is a Ray Skillman dealership. I expected more from them-they're a huge name in Indiana. I'm going to go try to reason with them.if they won't help put a bit, I'll just have to suck it up!

I would say try looking around for different prices on repairs. If the car is till in good condition why not keep it? Im just saying, but I think fixing the repair is better than going into a new car payment.

UPDATE:
Talked to dealer. Nissan's TSB NTB07-016b my situation perfectly. The reason the repair is so expensive is based on the assumption that the ABS Actuator (pump) is bad. I suspect that this is not the case, but wouldn't bet my wife's bust on it...so I asked if they would replace the sensor and cap for free. They agreed. If the pump IS bad, I'll have it rebuilt. If not, then I came out of this without losing cash. I did have to drive a Kia with an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (wth am i supposed to do with my left foot?) for a couple days, but I'm not broke from it.
Your advice, gentlemen, has been much appreciated. My wife did research while I was running errands, which also helped.
