Default Intelligent Key Problems

Hey everybody. Just bought an 07 Max SE, problem is it was a repo and didn't have any keys. I had it towed to the dealership so they could cut a new intelligent key and program it. After leaving the car there for a day and a half the service guy says they cut the key for the door, but I have to replace the lock set in the steering column (~$500 part & labor) because the actual key has to go in the ignition to program the intelligent key. Maybe I'm missing something but I didn't think there was anywhere to put an actual key in the ignition of this car. The service guy couldn't really explain anything other than saying there was a backup key slot, but after quoting me $190 to replace a battery I'm having a little trouble taking their word. So before paying them for this or having it towed to another stealership I figured I'd ask here. Does this sound right to anybody?

Oh and sorry if this has been covered. I tried searching first but didnt find anything.

Yes there is a slot for the ignition. Look at the ignition knob. There is a little door flap that opens up that will allow a key to get stuck into the ignition.

EXAXCTLY you may just have to bite the bullet and do it at the dealer and pay their fee (as much as i hate saying that) this is something you should do because anything goes wrong its their fault and covered

Good luck

EDIT THATS WHAT SHE SAID

LOL. Thanks for the info. Not exactly what I hoped to hear, but you all know more about this car than I do. I like working on my own vehicles and have replaced the lock set on a Jeep I used to have. If this is even remotely close to the same I'd do it myself in a heartbeat.

If it wasn't sitting at the dealership I could look at it more, but as it is if i tow it home to work on it I'll have to tow it back up there to finally get the key programmed. Grrrrr. Got a deal on the car but this is a PITA.

STUCK!!!
Really? How interesting. Why would he want his key to get "STUCK" in the ignition?

Great choice of words Nick at Night.

"Insert" or "Inserted" would have given the sentence a clearer meaning..
