Default Immobilizer Kicked In

Hello all!! I am having some serious problems with my '05 and needing some advice.

A little back story.... Sunday my brake and battery lights came on. After about two seconds of research I came to the awful realiztion that my alternator was going out. I thought it might work long enough for me to have time today to get it fixed, but no. Monday night while driving I started to lose power. My car would move, but it was really really slow, almost not moving. I parked it an went back the next morning,we got it jumped, but same loss of power, so I had it towed back to my house. Between Wednesday and Friday I worked on replacing the alternator. Yes, three days.. I have an 18 month old... Don't judge me! lol Well anyhow, I finished hooking everything back up, tried to start it, and nothing. I thought maybe I had ran my battery down when I was getting it back to my house, so I completely recharged it and put it back in.

Currently here is what I am getting: All my dash lights work (including battery, oil, and brake, which are still on for whatever reason), my radio works, power windows and locks work, lights work, and my security light is blinking about once every ten seconds. When I turn my key to on, all those things are working, but when I try to start the car, they all flash off until the key is back in the ON position. I am getting no attempt to turn over or anything, just the occassional buzzing and clicking from somewhere around the ignition.

After half a day of research the only possibilities I can think of are the immobilizer thing, bad battery connection, or starter/ignition coils. I have spoken to a Nissan dealership who pretty much said I needed to bring it in. I don't mind paying for them to reset the key but if it's anything other than that I would prefer to take it to my mechanic for 1/2 the price.

What I'm wondering is what the for sure indicator is for when the immobilizer is activated. I want to be positive that it is that before I pay for a tow to Nissan. Also, if there is any way to get past the immobilization myself, that would help.

So please... Any Help?

Why don't you at least do what's left of the operation and replace the battery completely, along with cleaning the battery heads/terminals as well. Also make the sure the alternator belt is tight enough.

Sorry I must have missed that tidbit.. I have a brand new battery in the car right now. I used cleaner and a toothbrush on the terminals, so they're clean. (Or as clean as they're going to get. I've been getting corrosion from the positive cable for a while now, but I've never had problems starting. Also, my belts are tight enough. I did everything to a T like I was supposed to. So as far as I'm concerned I did finish the job I started.

In that case, if take it to get checked at the dealer. Get your results in printout and get it fixed somewhere else.
