I would.... take the battery out and get it checked like at autozone or pepboys and go from there or just buy a new one and try it,if that fixes the problem you good if not take it back for a refund and now you will need to look at something else.

If his car is running, it's running on the alternator, not the battery. The battery is only used to start the car, then the alternator takes over. How old is the current battery? I would start with the alternator. As far as replacing it goes, I'm not quite sure what they go for at Autozone, but RockAuto has remanufactured for $235 and up.

As I said, your battery is only used to start the car, then it runs off of the alternator. I would have the alternator checked.

Usually all alternators that you buy is refurbished. Only way to get a brand new one is from dealer i think. You should first get the battery tested just to make sure it aint that. Then look into getting a new alternator. Sucks man.

Default Re: I think my alternator is done for!!!

been there done this

its the alernator and the duralast autozone brand is $244.00. you might also need a battery as well for another $100.00. i ended buying a new battery right after the alternator failed. if your doing the job ill tell you that the radiator WILL have to be pulled and the alternator bolt is a real bitch to come out. you'll also need a new alternator belt because the old one has the wear of the old alternator and it will squeel on start up.

get a gates brand belt. its the best you can buy with peace of mind. its also another $26.00 for that plus you need to replace the drained coolant with about 1.5 bottles of 50/50 antifreeze

get lots of beer or pay a shop to do it. so your looking at about $380 - $400 if you do it the right way in parts alone.

im sure dollar can hook you up since hes local to you.

I would say it's the alt, but I'd get them both tested first before buying any new parts.

Probably your alt, I'm on my third in a new 07. I have a cop detector that tells my battery voltage and can tell when the alt is about to die. When you start reading 12's or lower, it's done for.

the car will act a little funny after the job for a few days cause all the electrical current are all over the place like its on a acid trip. i ended up getting the failed precat codes and low tcm voltage codes as well. dont panick cause they will clear on there own after some time has gone by.

I told you it was the alternator brother.. if you had starting issues, it would be the battery. I'm glad your getting it fixed for a good price!
