Are you on crack?? Your car retails for 14500. That is with 100K and in excellent condition. I would ask 14K and not take anything less then 12K but that's just my opinion.

Figure you are about $4000-$5000 for another engine installed...subtract that from what the car is worth, and work down from there accordingly.

Nope. You can buy an engine with about 30K for 1500, another 500 to 700 to have it installed. I said no less then 12K, well 11K is reasonable with no engine. 6k to 7k if it has a salvage title, 11K with clear title.

Do what?? Stop shopping where ever you're getting prices like that Don. I can get you an engine right now under 25K miles for 1500 to 1700, install should not be more then 700.

The retail of his car is 14500, subtract 2200, that's 12300. 11K is reasonable price to accept. Anything less and you are getting raped.

How can an 06 with 103,000 miles on a GOOD engine be worth $14,500??? I got my 04 with 58,000 miles for $12,200. Don't tell me 2 years newer with double the miles increases the value.

Actually it does because 04s and 05s suck, had lots of issues. That's what NADA says and besides you most likely bought it from a dealer, you don't pay retail at a stealership. That's what banks and car industry uses, NADA. 14200 is the retail of that car in good condition with those miles. He will not get that but 11K is reasonable for a private sale, maybe 10K with a bad engine. Now if he was to trade it in, he would not get more then 6K.

Are you mad because you want to rip him off by buying it for 6K and Im messing it up for you?? I have no reason to lie, look it up. The retail on yours with about 100K is 11900.

Uh, no! I don't need another car. And I did look it up already. I also looked it up on kbb.com where it says Private Party Value (which would apply to his case) is $12,500.

KBB is not recognized or used by the Auto industry or banks, NADA is. KBB is not accurate at all.

There's still no way anyone in their right mind would pay $14,500 for an 06 with 103,000 miles.

You would be surprised but that's just the retail. Like I said before, he will not get that in a million years, that's just the price his is valued at. Realistically, he will probably get 9k to 10k if he waits but 6k is way too low I think.

What he should probably do is go ahead and swap the engine and then sell it. I just know you'll get more out of a running car than one that needs work right off the bat.
