Default Front End Shaking Like A Salt Shaker!

Ok so to start off,
*A month ago my driver side front axle nut backed out for about a week. I have since tightened it back up.
*I recently replaced my tires with Goodyear Eagle RS-A all around. Had some issues there but have since been corrected.
*Now, my front end is shaking like crazy when I depress the gas pedal.

So I'm on the interstate and notice that my front end is pretty shaky on and off, not constant but more on and off. I thought it might be the balance of my wheels, but I just had that done and the steering wheel is not shaking too bad. It's more like the whole front end.

So I take it out of gear and coast... the shake is NO WHERE near as bad. I put it back in gear and push the gas pedal and the shake comes back HARD and feels like my rims are loose on my hubs or something crazy. It's scaring me quite a bit

So I was thinking wheel bearings or tie rod ends or even ball joints... but now I'm starting to lean more towards motor mount??

I NEED SOME HELP PLEASE!!!!

if the axle nut backed out , thats not a good sign,

that means either the axle has pop out of place, make sure your not leaking any transmission fluid or any puddle.

I would support/jack up the car and make sure whatever side that axle nut came out, to visual inspect to see if the inners of the axles are pop inside the tranny.

if it is,

I would then check your wheel bearing , having a loose axle nut can lead to a damage wheel bearing, tie rods , etc

This past Saturday, before a very long business trip, I took a look at everything on that side... tie rod, drive shaft, rotor, axle nut EVERYTHING and it all appeared fine. SURELY though, even a bad wheel bearing on that side could not cause this type of excessive shake in the entire front end of my car... right?

BTW, there was no leaking of trans fluid or anything leaking at all for that matter when I checked it on Saturday... that may have changed or gotten worse. I also checked that the driveshaft was in fact inserted into the tranny on Saturday also.

.Are you lowered? check all of your engine mounts too. See if there is any movement. Have someone stand over the engine bay while you rev up the engine. See if it lifts while you give it gas than

I am not lowered, still factory suspension. No upgrades to the suspension at all for that matter, nor replacement parts (like bearings). Pushing 110K miles, BTW.

Today at lunch, I am going to have a buddy check the engine while I rev it and see if that is it... until then, any other suggestions? I will need to get some parts ordered if I am to fix my baby this weekend...

I was going to say have the tire shop double check the tire. Put the front wheels on the rear and the rear tires on the front. See what happens.

Thats not a bad idea... I just can't seem to understand how a tire could instantly cause this kind of shake...

Also, when I turn my steering wheel to the right (while the car is moving forward) I hear a scraping or grinding noise from the driver side. Seems that noise came up after the axle nut incident... I assume wheel bearing but wouldn't that noise be prevalent all the time?

I take that back, I totally understand how a tire could cause this shake but they are brand new and I have not visually seen any defects in the tire itself...

Its your axle bro....the shaking only happens when you accelerate past like 45 to 50 and above right? You don't feel it driving slower and I correct? If that's the case its definately a bad axle. I had the same issue and I checked everything only for the dealer to say it a bad passenger side axle. Let us know what you find out.

Now thats good advice... because that was on my mind also... Thanks man.

As an update, I just got back from Discount Tire, a buddy of mine works there. He took my wheels off, took ALL the weights off and rebalanced them AND rotated them. We both also made sure there were no humps in the tires or anything. NOW, the shake has decreased DRASTICALLY (probably mostly a counterbalance issue with the weights on the rims) BUT like JAMMAX said, I now notice that the "shake" feeling comes on as I accelerate mainly.

SO, is there any way to verify if you have a bad axle? It appears to me to be coming from the driver side... but axles ARE NOT CHEAP! Like $400-500 bux PER! Suggestions?

I would assume also that the driver side axle would be the faulty axle because of the axle nut backing out on that side only...

I didn't realize there is supposed to be like 170ft lbs of torque on the axle nut... perhaps my driver side is still not tight enough causing this issue... In order to tighten the axle nut should you put the car in 1st gear and then crank the shit out of that nut? I was worried about cranking too hard with it in gear and messing up a gear tooth in the tranny

???

So as an update, I just placed an order with www.Raxles.com as I hear some pretty amazing things about these guys. $220 plus shipping for a beefier axle on the driver side... apparently there are issues with the driver side axle not being strong enough if the car is lowered???

Whatever, I'll take a performance enhancement ANYTIME!

Bro, coming from someone that's slammed and has been through axles you paid way too much for that axle. Another thing, the drivers side axle is the stronger axle even when lowered. Its the passenger side that's the culprit. The shake will feel like its from the drivers side but to be sure, I would have them both checked and replaced if possible.

So as an update I have now replaced both CV axles, both wheel bearings and both tie rod ends on the front of my 04 Max. I recently had the tires rebalanced and the only thing I am lacking is an alignment.

I still have a small shimmy at highway speeds... WTF! Do you think an alignment would truly correct this? It still drives straight...
