Default Did You Know? (Accicent & Seatbelts)

When you get into an accident and your airbags deploy & seatbelts lock... you SHOULD replace both.

The seatbelts become un-useable because on the accident impact...it triggers the pretensioners to lock in permanently.

If you ever buy a vehicle that has been in an accident or any type of airbag deploying collision...make sure you get it checked out. Some people just try to have the airbags repacked and module reset so that the new owner doesn't see any dash lights.

The right thing to do is to replace all these deployed items with new items and have the airbag module reset by a qualified technician.

This can be a life/death situation depending on the accidents. In some cases airbags can deploy after the accident causing even more severe injuries.

Very true. Sometimes the seatbelt material stretches too. Good post Eddy.

In our cars its a must. You will also have to replace the entire dash cover as that gets destroyed once the airbag pops out. Its also very expensive...the passenger side airbag alone is 1000.

Default Re: Did You Know? (Accicent & Seatbelts)

Since we are on the topic...If you have a child in a safety seat and the child/safety seat is involved in a crash, the seat is supposed to be sent back to the manufacturer to be re-certified for use. The seat webbing can stretch, and the child seat can develop micro/stress fractures, rendering the seat unsafe. Lastly, you should NEVER use a used child safety seat, unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure of it's history. If the seat has been in a crash, it should NOT be re-used.
