Default Crappy Fuel Economy

Hello all, i have been searching this org and the others for some suggestions on how i can get better fuel economy or if my car has a problem. I have an 05 maxima in NYC and im only getting about 14mpg at best. Car has about 108k on it and I do about 50/50 highway/city driving. I have read many other threads and it seems like everyone else is getting much better numbers. I have tested it with the car computer and by doing the math on my own. The car has a short ram intake with 2 month old filter, block off plate, new plugs, new tires, oil change every 3-4k miles, stock exhaust, new cam sensors, rebuilt tranny, No CEL, i have my own scanner, grounding kit. The car drives good only get a light rattle sometimes when accelerating. Gonna take it to muffler shop i think it might be one of the heat shields or a bracket. I dont drive it hard too often so i dont think its my driving habbits. Thanks for any help or advice.

From the day I bought my car back in 06 I have used 87 octane and was getting 22.1 Avg. I do 80 miles a day to and from work so I say its a 80/20 split mostly highway. Three months ago I decided to try 93 octane and my mileage has improved to 24.6 Avg. My car now has 121k on it.

I have always put 93 in the car since i got it. I bought it with 86k on it though. Ive seafomed it a few times right before an oil change. The oil i use is mobile 1 full sinthetic 5w30. Ive never had any timing chain issues. I thought it might be the pre cats but i dont have any cel and the car accelerates fine. i get no rotten egg smell when i push it. Imma probably have the car checked for exhaust leaks but i dont hear any when i drive. I only hear the intake.

City i just cruize all the time just about at the speed limit. Same with highway if theres traffic cant speed, if there isnt traffic usually 60-70mph. I just drive with traffic and maybe a little faster cause its fun to have a maxima. Can never get too crazy in money hungry nyc. Tickets r not cheap and i already pay too much in insurance.

You live in NYC. This is what we get. Crap mileage because there are traffic lights every 10 feet. I too had that same mileage, when in NY. Im in Florida till august and traffic lights are MUCH MUCH further apart, better roads, plus a lot of highway driving.I avg about 23 city in Orlando. Much more than I did in Brooklyn.

I guess you could be right. If everyone that has a max in nyc gets the same mpg i will accept that cause i like the car, but if it is possible to get better milage than 13-14mpg i would like to know how. Gas prices r killing me lol.

16 mpg City....25 mpg on the highway. I'm driving 2000 miles a month right now..so I'm constantly trying to set personal best for economy. Unfortunately...that means setting the cruise at 65mph...no thanks.

Better gas, HESS GAS. or Exxon. I notice when I use Costco. Gas I get bad mileage. And NYC traffic don't help either. Go on a long trip on highway you'll see a big difference. 93 all day
