Default Bose With Navigation Questions

Hello Everyone,

I want to first start out by saying thanks for allowing me into your community. I just purchased my first car about a month ago and it happened to be a 2007 Nissan Maxima SL 3.5. I was looking online for different mods I could do to it such as install an iPhone adapter and rear view camera and I stumbled upon this site.

So....

I have been unable to fine any solid information on my 07 Max with Bose with Navigation Stock. I feel like I have the only one ever made haha. I've been doing research on how to do the following mods...

-iPhone integration for charging and playback through the stock navi screen
-rear view camera integration with the stock navi screen.
-add an aftermarket amp and subwoofer while keeping the stock radio/navi (I think for this I just need to get an LOC and tap into the rear speakers?)
-adding remote start to my factory Intelligent Key Fob. (I don't need/want a viper or comparable alarm/remote start system right now)

I've come across a few threads and sites with different parts that claim to work but I am unsure of because everyone who comments does not have a stock navi, they always have aftermarket.

Here is the part I believe I need for the iPhone interface. Its's the ISNI571

Here are the choice of parts I think I need for rear view camera integration with the stock navi.

VCI-NIS2 http://www.installer.com/item/displa...hp?it=vci-nis2

or

NAVRGB-NI24 http://www.installer.com/item/displa...it=navrgb-ni24

I also looked into the Express DBALL adapter for the remote start.

I'm running out to work so I will have to update this with a bit more later sorry if I left this in the wrong section!

Regards,
Joefigg

Listen guy, you ain't special. I have a 2008 Maxima SE fully loaded including the bose and Navi, rear sonar, heated tinting mirrors etc. If you can find a backup camera for the stock Navi then God bless. But it's an old ass screen, so Idk if anything would work with it.

Haha thanks everyone for the replies. Even though they got me nowhere!
I just had the center console completely apart. I wonder if it's possible to have the Nissan system with an aftermarket head unit or if it's worth it to just install a double din with nav instead?

If I were you, I'd get a Pioneer double din Nav unit.

Where would my console controls go? I'd have two screens it seems like? I don't really need the backup camera just thought it would be cool if I could get it to work. I have the sonar. I do however want a sub and amp gotta look into that crap now.

I actually have the stock bose as well. It's quite good! In my old altima I put a full aftermarket infinity setup in my car with sub and amp. I will admit that blows the bose away. But my two cents and some opinions, I drive cars for a living, most all common brands (excluding beemers and high end) all have Shit radios! The only one that was kinda decent was the shaker Sound system in the Mustang premium package. It has a lot of bass but not good midrange.

Anyhoo, some advice, a member of this forum, don't remember who but I remember reading how they gutted their audio and placed a 2000 premium stereo setup in there, and it ended up sounding worse than the bose. The engineers designed the speakers to work perfectly with the acoustic of the car. Imo, don't change it. Our bose cranks and it is good quality. Yes the bass isn't incredible but it's enough. Let me know if you need anything. We have basically the same car setup.

Thanks Mike,

I do like the quality of the Bose system...I just really would like more bass. It seems to drop out the more I crank up the volume which kind of sucks/defeats the purpose. I know I've read on here that it is because its "saving the speakers" or something like that.

I do know that I would like to keep my stuff stock, I just really wanted to add a 12" sub in the trunk that I could control separate from the stock system with a remote knob run to the drivers side somewhere. If I eventually installed the sub I was planning on coating at least the trunk with some dynamat or similar product.

I think my first project at this point for electronics is an iPhone adapter for the stereo. I've read on here about different adapters I may need. I have an iPhone 5 and as much as I love that fact that there is an AUX port installed I would really like the ability to charge/ display song info/ switch songs with the stereo wheel controls and have just one clean hidden cord.

Joe,

Haha I may be the perfect role model for you I've had the car 4 years now and I've been through literally everything you've said so far. Man I wish I had this when I first got it haha.

1. For me personally I use an Ipod. What I did to optimize the sound system (and if you try this lmk if it works for you I'd be happy if it helped). I use the Aux jack with a two way cable to the Ipod. I noticed the distortion as well. What I did was go to the Ipod and set a volume limit at about 80%. I noticed if I put Ipod volume on max and cranked it the radio distorted (which u don't usually get with aftermarket, but I digress). So I set the volume limit to 80%, and then go into audio setting. I have the bass at like half way, treble about 5/8, and high half. With this setup I can crank the stereos volume to max and it will never distort. Also, I put the fade one notch to the back speakers to take some stress off the front. Even though I limit the volume on the iPod the max volume still goes pretty darn loud.

Secondly. When I first first bought the car I immediately spent money on a direct Ipod connect wire. I wanted the same as you with the controls and what not exactly as you said. Brotha let me save you the money now. First off, the shop fucked up my glove box and it sits crooked now. That's just my situation, however they didn't tell me that the volume through this wire and no matter which brand you buy will literally kill the max volume by 75% and audio quality. When I asked why he said it had something to do with the blue tooth or whatever. It was one of those where you connect into the charge port of the Ipod and you should be he able to use the controls as you wanted. Idk if it's because it's an older car but it's a total waste.

Lastly I am a musician and have a very keen ear for audio quality. I am very particular about how things sound. And with the setup above on the stock bose I think you will love it.

As for the sub I believe you may be able to wire in a bigger sub with the stock speakers and it should be a win win.

Thanks Mike for the detailed response.

I immediately noticed the issue with full volume on the iphone/iPod from previous vehicles. I have my phone at like 75% or so and it's great. I've noticed that with my iphone the bass goes pretty far on the Maxima's speakers before cutting or clipping or whatnot. I honestly haven't turned the speakers past little more than half way because the highs get too high and start to crackle in the front speakers.

I believe on my stereo I have the sound shifted to the back by one or two, the lows might be 0 or -1, mids I think 1 or 2, and highs 3-4.

Thanks for the heads up with the aftermarket iPod charge adapter. I was hesitant also because of how they needed to be controlled with the stock radio buttons. Wasn't a fan of this...

I think I will definitely stay away from it now and figure out a way to run the charge wire so it's less obtrusive.

Also when you say you changed your bass treble and high half was that on your iphone or on the max's stereo? Was just confused.

Hey Joe,

No problem brotha. I am happy to help. I get a lot of help from other people here so I am happy I finally am useful for something lol.

I am sorry because at the moment my car is in the shop because somebody hit my car while it was parked (i didn't see it, what can you do). But when I get it back I will tell you exactly what my settings are at. I definitely misjudged the audio I was doing it by memory (the mid, bass, etc).

IMO don't even waste your time or money running a direct charge wire, I just use the port and a car charger. Works fine. But I respect whatever you do. You have an 07 right? Ill have to take a pic of my dash to show you, i think ours might be slightly diff.

Yea I have an 07 I'm going to do some brain storming to see if I can't hide an iPod cable somewhere and run it so just enough hangs out it's not a huge deal I just loath wires!!!

Here's a few pictures of my 2007 Nissan Maxima SL 3.5 Bose with Navigation. Taken with my iPhone 5. Click the image to open in full size.Click the image to open in full size.

I'm thinking of taping into the back of the 12v source. Whoever had the car before me did it. I don't know why because they were using to run a SiriusXM receiver while hiding the cords behind the dash. I tore that out because screw paying for radio + the system already has a SAT button. Whoever hooked it up did a shotty job I managed to get some shrink tubing over the bare wires though so it's good as new.

With that being said thinking of tapping into them again to power an iPhone cable...
