Default Auto AC

Ok so i just got my viper thing installed. When i use the remote start, the air automatically turns on the AC, its always been like that even before the viper, and ive always had to manually switch it to heat. How can i change this to automatically turn the heat on when the air is turned on?

So you want the heat on but the A/C button on too??

I never bother with the A/C button being on when i use the heat unless i have fogging windows which is rare. I would make sure that you have everything set the way you want it prior to remote starting it.

No, on my dash when i push AUTO, it turns on the AC, and then i have to manually switch it to heat, can i set it to turn the heat on when i press AUTO. Also, when i turn the car off with the heat blasting and then turn the car back on with the remote start, it automatically turns the AC on.

Does this occur regardless of the temperature setting? I leave my temperature setting on 72 or 73 all year. The thermostat should automatically adjust the temperature in the cabin. Heat or A/C should come on depending on the outside temperature.

Yes it occurs regardless of temperature setting. Its freezing outside right now, and when i turn the car on and press auto, it turns the AC on.

If this started happening since the installation of your "Viper", you should go back to the installers. They may have disconnected something.
I am not familiar with this problem.

Hopefully someone will chime in that is more knowledgeable.

If the A/C works and the Heat works, then logically it must be something with the "Auto" switch.
Good luck. I'll be watching.

Its been happening since before the Viper installation, but it didnt really matter to me since i had to be in the car anyway, i just manually change it to heat. Now with the viper remote start, id like to get the car warmed up before i step outside. Ill try to mess with the settings again tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

If i recall, It's in the manual. Auto always turns on the AC so that the windows don't fog...even with the heater on Auto is going to sense the external temp and adjust in the in cabin automatically. It also adjusts the recycling or bringing in fresh air option too.

PapaL, That is a new one on me. As I stated in the previous post, I leave my setting on 73. When it is hot out side the A/C comes on. When it is cold out side the Heat comes on (no A/C first)
I am pretty sure that is the way it is supposed to work. All my other cars with the "auto" feature work the same way.

Do you live in a warm climate all year?

I live in DC far from warm all year long. All 4 seasons here.
I don't know how other cars work. I know how mine works. Auto always turns on the ac. I'm always set to 75. Dunno what to tell you.

Okay, I was just curious. Mine works the way I described.
Sounds logical to me to have the heat come on automatically when it is cold outside. Of course the car needs to warm up first before the heat kicks on.
I have never had the A/C come on when it is cold out side. I do know the A/C compressor turns on when the defrost is turned on.

PapaL, Thank you for posting the owners manual page for the A/C Heat Auto control instructions.
From what I read it should work exactly as I described, (and exactly as Paperboy wants it to work on his car).

No offense, but you have contradicted yourself in your comment above. The manual clearly states this mode can be used all year long to maintain a constant temperature. However if you choose to manually turn on the heat, then the AC is turned off (makes sense)

Paper boy does not want the A/C on in the winter time. He wants to heat his cabin interior before before getting in the car. He purchased a "Viper" system to remotely start the car. His complaint is the "Auto" feature is not working correctly. He leaves the "Auto" setting on, but only the A/C comes on. He wants heat.

Shouldn't the heat come on for Paperboy if his "Auto" feature is on and it is cold outside?

What Paperboy is trying to figure out, is what is wrong with the "Auto " feature in his car.

Default Re: Auto AC

If it's on Auto you can NOT turn the AC off. You can push the button till it flies off. You have to be off of auto to work it with just the heat.
Automatic Operations is one section, Heating (A/C off) is a separate section. That's why its called Dehumidified heating vs Heating (A/C off). Notice Heating (A/C off) makes no mention of the Auto button. Yet Automatic Operations AND dehumidified defrosting or defogging do.

It's working as designed. The heat will come on but that does NOT mean the AC will shut off. If Auto is on, BOTH will come on.

PapaL,
LOL I understand exactly what you are saying about the "Auto" and "Heat" being two different sections.

Let me ask you this. Do you use the "auto" feature in the winter?
If yes, does your heat come on automatically?

Default Re: Auto AC

You guys are confusing yourselves with the term AC. You can heat the car with the AC turned on...just turn the temp up. Having the AC on just acts as a dehumidifier. I've gone all winter using my AC to heat the car...it really isn't any big deal. If you heat the car with the AC, it will help to keep the windows from fogging, as was stated earlier. The air being pumped by the AC compressor/condenser is dry air. If you use the "Auto" setting, like I do, then it will always turn on the AC compressor...it isn't a big deal. I get into my car when it is 13 degrees outside, start the car, and hit "Auto". I have my temp set to 75 degrees. The AC button lights, but not to worry, as the blower fan doesn't turn on yet. The blower fan will not start until the car starts to warm up, so it isn't like I am pumping 60 degree AC air into my car.

Hope this clear it up.

Thank you Hawaii.
I think you cleared it up for me.
Do you have any knowledge to help Paperboy with his problem?

Let me ask you this. Do you use the "auto" feature in the winter?
If yes, does your heat come on automatically?
I use auto all year round. If I'm hot I turn the temp down. If I'm cold I crank it up. Been working as advertised since 2005.

Paperboy doesn't have a problem, he only thinks he does. Just because the AC is on, doesn't mean he can't heat the car. Turn the car on, let it warm up, turn on the AC and set the blower to floor, and set your thermostat to 75...guess what...you have warm air. If you set the temp down to 60, then you will have cold air. It isn't a problem, it is working how it is supposed to work. If he is wanting to warm up the car, just make sure that the interior temp is set to 75 before you turn off the car. Again, the AC being on is NOT a problem. You can warm the car with the AC...I know...I've done it that way for the last 2 winters.

Exactly right.

I happen to turn it off from time to time and just turn the a/c back on if fogging starts.

It was a little confusing to me at first though.

I was confused also. I was misinterpreting the "Auto" on as controlling the set temperature in the cabin to automatically turn on A/C or Heat. What I was not understanding is the "Auto" setting always turns the A/C on. Adjusting the temperature will allow for either warm or cool air.

I apologize to PapaL for getting this so confused. Thank you Hawaii for clearing it up.

Paperboy, I hope this has all made sense to you. From what I understand, you can;
1. Leave your "Auto" feature on.
2. Set your temperature to what you want.
3. Remotely start your car in cold weather.
4. Your car cabin should warm up (even though the A/C light is on)

Did I get it right this time?
