Default 2008 SE Rear Suspension. Rear of The Maxima Kicks Out.

I noticed going over bumps / imperfections on highways my Maxima rear slightly kicks out and its quite annoying. I just checked my tire pressure and its all good 36 psi all around. Any ideas what this might be?

Suspension is stock.

Sounds like an alignment issue. Do you get a 4 wheel alignment or a 2 wheel alignment. Could be the alignment in the rear is off, which will explain why it feels as if the car is slightly fishtailing or kicking out. If its not in spec can cause issues. Also check all your bushings and links in the rear.

There's the same issue with the Murano. Which has the same frame of an Altima but its overweight. So check the rear thoroughly. But an alignment will be the main factor. The toe could be off in either the right or left side of the rear. Remember your cars have independent suspension compared to the older gens which have a rear beam. So you're going have different settings when it comes to alignment.

I noticed my steering wheel is slightly off like by .5''.

About 6 months ago the car was rear ended by an X5 so maybe this has something to do with it. Ill try to basically check my endlinks, bushings and than ill do an alignment when I get a new set of fresh tires.

I must say I really don't like the feeling of my ass kicking out on highways it makes the car feel cheap and unplanned.

I wish the maxima had similar suspension to my S4.

I really hope not but ill go through my steps first and if it doesnt solve the problem, ill go back to the body shop and make them confirm the body / whatever is straight.

Also the X5 hit wasn't that bad. The rear quarter panel was replaced because the skin just crumpled and it wasn't worth using bondo all around the rear quarter. Its easier and cheaper just to replace the skin.

#1 alignment as I'm assuming here but I'm almost certain your thrust line angle has been altered due to an accident....
#2 Also, this symptom is also often caused by worn shocks. What happens is, overtime the shocks loose the ability to rebound fast enough and by the time they do the vehicle has slightly moved from its traveled line path.
