Default 2008: Mysterious Squeaky Sound

When I go over a bump, I hear a squeaky noise.

This evening, Christian closed the passenger door and I heard the noise again. Only this time, the car was park and engine off.

I heard the noise coming from under the hood. I opened the hood and asked Christian to open and close the door again. While the hood was up and he closed the door ... no noise!!!!! WTH!!

When I lowered the hood and he repeated his steps, I heard the noise again.

What should I look for? I'm thinking hood struts? Maybe? Why don't I get a sound when the hood is up?

Ideas please.. that squeak.. drove me absolute crazy tonight!!

sounds like the door hinge may needs some pb blaster.

when the hood is shut , it spreads the load on the fenders, so when you open the door, the door hinges now is understress, it may be need a little grease or spray.

if the noise was over speed bumps than I would say strut mounts

I will check the door hinge tomorrow. Thank you..

The noise is also heard going over bumps.. the strut mounts were replaced in July when I lowered the car. How often do they need to be replaced?

Normally you replace them when order new struts, sometimes customers and shops like to cut corners, they don't go bad if your not extremely lowered but then again you do you live in pothole city.

if the noise is coming from the bumps than the squeak could also have something to do with your struts.

I can't think of anything else right now , having a brain fart right now.

I'm aching to look for that noise again! Hopefully, before going to the library tonight and certainly before it gets dark! I have errands to run during lunch. Never enough time during the day for me.

I've had this, going over bumps....super annoying. Then I heard it when the door shut. I was leaning towards something to do with the struts but then why squeak when the car is stopped and I shut the door.

I lubed up the hood latchs and the door hinges because that's where it sounded like it was coming from. Didn't fix it immediately but now it seems to have gone away.

It's a tricksy hobbitttsss to find, I'm not 100% sure I've got this resolved yet.

Well, I added a grease that I use for the door hinges at home and other things.

Don't laugh, but you just never know what household or beauty product would do the job.

Click the image to open in full size.

Yes, V05 hair conditioning grease!

Before you guys go nuts, I discovered this one day many years ago when I read their pamphlet on its many uses. I don't know if the new packaging still comes with the same information.

Here is a site I found to show you what it can do.

V05 usage

I have used it to loosen tight nuts and bolts and for the door hinges and other stuff.

I haven't heard anything squeak since I applied it to the hood latch. Then again, I haven't been paying attention to it because I have been listening to music while driving.

When I travel to PA tomorrow, I will be on a look out for the noise and let you know if that did the job or not.

Noooooooooo

LOL j/k maybe it works good! I don't use any "penetrants or solvents' I used a garage door blaster/lube or a while lithium grease. A penetrant will work for a short time, clean and loosen but it wears out faster than grease or oil.

haha.. funny smilie!!!

My car is going to be at the dealer next week. I will have them look into it if I hear anything again.

Don't laugh, but you just never know what household or beauty product would do the job.

This made me laugh
