Default Factory Freak

I recently purchased my girlfriends black 2004 Maxima AT with 120k miles on it for $5k. Because of her history of seizures, she's been unable to drive a car for the past year and half and its been parked in my garage since then. I've taken care of the maintenance and cleaning/polishing/waxing for the past 5 years so I knew it's history. I needed a new DD, and I offered to buy hers since it was doing no good just sitting in my garage.

Anyhow, about 2 years ago we went to the local track and I decided to see what her car would do. I was always impressed by its power every time I drove it.. It was an 8th mile but on the very first pass I ran an 8.9 @ 79MPH. What makes this even more interesting was that I was on 20" wheels at the time. I made 2 more passes but never made it into the 8's again. Next run was 9.0, and 9.2.

I was whipping up on most of the 99-04 mustang GT's there that night. I'm no stranger to drag racing as I've got a 750rwhp lightning that I go to the track with all the time but it seems from what I'm seeing here modded maximas are 9.2 - 9.4s. The car now has the factory 17s back on it. I'm hoping to get back to the track soon to see how it does. I would like to purchase a nismo catback exhaust as soon as I can find one and an intake.

I'd love to see some vids of your runs.

IF you can find a nismo catback for sale, seriously investigate it; they are very rare.

Welcome aboard!

I hope so. With is being my daily driver and my 85 mile round trip to work and back Mon-Fri, I don't want anything really loud which is what I liked about the Nismo so much.

Heres a few pics along with a video of my first 2 passes after being getting retuned racing a buddy in a 1000rwhp turbo silverado and getting my ass handed to me.

Truck has a fully built motor, trickflow heads, comp cams, and a whipple 3.4L blower. Street tune runs on 93 pump gas at 17psi and race tune runs off E85 at 23psi.

One thing I've noticed, today being my second day of driving it, is that sometimes the doors will not unlock or lock with my remote or by pressing the door button. I can hear all 4 door lock actuators "trying" to work and move the locks in or out but its almost as if they are stuck and my passenger window no longer works either...new window regulator/motor? I'm guessing because the car sat for a year and half would be one cause of this.

The lock actuators have been known to go bad, but it would be odd that you would have to replace all 4 at the same time.

That being said:

I don't know if I am right, but it could be the remote on your fob too causing it. But I don't know for sure. Maybe try replacing the battery in the key fob. It might help out.

Thanks!

That's exactly what I thought. All four of them doing it was strange. But since the car has sat for a year and half without ever getting cranked, maybe that has something to do with it. I'm going to buy one and try it out and if that fixes it, then i'll replace the other 3.

Sorry homeslice without a vid I'm gonna have to raise flag on an 8.9 run on 20 inch wheels on a 5 speed auto. you would hold the record for the fastest stock maxima in the history of the universe. This includes all generations and transmission. Being that an 8.9 run is a 13.6-13.8 quarter mile time.

hence my reason for the title factory freak. Theres no bullshit in the fact that I ran an 8.9 @ 79mph according to the clock and slip I received. At the time, I had no idea what these cars ran so when I ran an 8.9 I wasnt that shocked. It wasn't until I registered on the Maxima forums that I found its extremely rare. Was the time on the clock wrong? Did that clock start a few tenths slow when I took off therefore giving me a faster time on the clock? Who the hell knows? I've been drag racing for a long time and I've personally never seen one wrong. I'm at the track in my Lightning at least 2-3 times a month so I intend on taking the car really soon again as I would like to see how it does.

I had a 2.0 60ft on that very first run. Neither other runs afterwords were as fast and I allowed plenty of cool down time between all runs. We'll see.

I will definitely agree with you that after seeing other peoples times here, It doesn't really seem possible to me that I ran an 8.9....on 20s none the less....but i can only go off what the time slip said. Thats why Im going back soon and see how close I can get to that again in a stock maxima.

A 402 stroker motor with an 80mm turbo. Truck makes over 1000rwhp and it's all wheel drive. It's a monster.

For a Maxima to run that time on 20 inch wheels on an AT, it would need ALOT more whp than the average vq35. Even under ideal conditions its not happening. The only explanation is an innacurate ET. Unless of course you can duplicate it. You wouldnt happen to live in canada and be using 20 inch lightweight wheels on drag radials right?

No, no drag radials on the maxima, although not a bad idea really LOL..

I simply drove around the waterbox, spun the tires just enough to clean them off and launched about 1k RPMs. I agree with you though. It doesnt seem accurate. The next run was a 9.0 and then a 9.2 after that. The closest track to me is shut down for the rest of December but I plan on going back very soon.

That is awesome!! I love lightnings. If I ever won the lottery I would buy one. The beauty of those if that if you change the supercharger pully and put on a few mods you have huge power!!
