yea, and its not so much the acid itself, its the temp of the wheel surface. My buddy had a BEAUTIFUL set of Dub wheels on his Cadillac DTS...he used Meguiers cleaner, and they all faded and looked like shit. When he called Dub to try and warranty them, they said using any type of cleaner on a warm or hot rim ruins the finish, even if you only do it once or twice. Its all in how the chemicals react to the heat

I agree with everybody else. Soap and water is the best things for tires and wheels. At the same time, I like my tires with a little dressing at the end LOL.

The absolute cleanest most eye popping shine you can get on a chrome rim is with a degreaser mixed with water and 0000 steel wool. You won't get any scratches and the finish is left mirror bright.

The only way a chrome rim will "pit" is if there is a chip in the coating and water gets underneath. Like you said, never ever clean a hot rim or even a warm one with chemicals. That's how you get staining that can never be removed.

For easy brake dust removal (daily) i use yellow towels similar to a swiffer pad for your house floors. Takes the dust off and doesnt scratch. if you can find them, i get mine from the cleaning guy at work. Probably have them at a cleaning supply store locally.

I just use water and towel. I have a neighbor that has a black 06 cts. I thought it was like an 08-09. I asked him what he uses to clean it and he said just water. he doesn't use soap at all. the paint on that car is perfect no scratches or anything. I use soap about 2 times out the month to clean my max.

Soap doesn't cause scratches. It helps to prevent them because chemically it's a surfuctant and helps to suspend the dirt and provide a slippery surface.

Swirl marks are caused by your choice of wash media and drying towels along with washing technique.

Two bucket wash method with a boars hair brush, leaf blower drying with Absorb-It wipedown is the safest method.

No, for the paint. Check it out, been using them for years, for $70 it's a great investment.

Default Re: Rim Detailing

For chrome rims, all a person has to do is rinse it down with some water and wipe it with a wash mitt. Then use some chrome polish (whichever......I would use Meguiar's) and use a polishing towel to apply it and another one to buff it out.
