Default 3-stage Buff Detail?

So I wanna completely make my car look like new.. there's lots of little scratches everywhere and my friend said that a 3 stage buff would make it look like new.

Is this something that's been discussed before, or does anyone know how much it'd cost?

So in order to fix all the little scratches all around my car, I dont need a 3-stage buff? Just compounds and stuff?

Depending on what defects are in the paint you can get past with a 2 stage detail which usually involves a compounding and then a final polishing phase. Wax, sealants etc. will do very little for this. Like OwenMaxima said, the effect would be temporary until the LSP wears off and in many cases you wouldn't get the blistering clear shine you are after, no matter how good the wax. While there are many carnauba based LSPs that can "fill" swirls, they are still there.

If you think you want to do it yourself, check out http://www.adamspolishes.com/ for some good how-to videos. You'll need a random orbital buffer. Borrow one from a friend. Chances are if he has one, he knows how to use it. It takes time, patience and most of all a place to work out of the sun, but you will love the results. If you want to pay someone to do it, you better have a fat wallet. I suggest a body shop or a custom paint shop. Ask to see their work. Satisfy your self that they know what they are doing. Good luck!

I use a Flex XC3401 random orbital. It has a gear-driven, forced rotation, so it won't bind on you...yet it is a random orbital, so there is less chance of damaging your paint. My 6 year old daughter scratched her name into the side of my wife's 07 Altima (majestik blue), so I spent 4 hours the other day buffing her car. Along with the Flex, I swear by Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0, and Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0. I followed up both of those with a dose of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant. It's been raining every day since. As soon as the weather breaks, I'm going to give it a quick wash and top it off with a coat of Pinnacle Souveran paste wax. The results speak for themself. I can post pics if anybody is interested. I use the same swirl remover/finishing glaze, and paint sealant on my silver Max, but I top mine with Wolfgang Fuzion paste wax. I think the Fuzion looks much better on the silver, and the Souveran looks better on the dark blue.

I don't trust my car to ANYBODY unless I absolutely have to. I've seen too many "fly-by-night" detail shops burn paint jobs because they are not paying attention to what they are doing when they are buffing a paint job. I prefer to do all of my detail work myself, besides...it keeps me out of trouble!

I got it from Autogeek.net. It was a little pricey, but I split the cost with a co-worker, and we share it between us. They have awesome products and they always have a "buy-one-get-one-free" section. Most of my stuff I managed to snag on sale, and I got some pretty decent deals. Just remember when you're browsing around their site...most of the stuff they carry isn't your average $3 Turtle Wax!

+1. About $1500 spent on boutique stuff between that site and two others. Btw, the Wolfgang 3.0 twins are great, I use them on both a PC and a Makita rotary.

For really bad finishes I've found Megs 105 with a rotary to be superfast, great cut and minimal defects that Ultrafina 3000 with blue foam can be used after to burnish the paint to a high gloss.

Only $1500? ...my friend, you have some catching up to do :D!
I've used the Wolfgang twins on 4 different cars with excellent results. I use an orange pad with the TSR, and switch to a white pad for the finishing glaze. If you have a light-colored car, you need to try to snatch a small jar of Fuzion when it is on sale...really awesome stuff. I had a co-worker try it on his silver Honda, and he ended up ordering some. This is the same guy who thought you had to be nuts to spend that much on wax!

My buddy bought the Menzerna combo, it got great reviews and is supposed to be really good also. He gave me a little of it to try, and I tried to use it 2 times. It dusted up on me really badly both times. I don't know if it was the humidity, or what, but I ended up back with the Wolfgang combo.

I had been eyeing their foam guns for quite a while, and I finally ordered one late last year. That thing is GREAT! My wife came outside when I was using it, and she said "Holy cow...just like going to the car wash!". Autogeek currently has the Foaming wash on sale BOGO, so I guess I'll be placing another order!!! (I really need to stay off of their website!)

I'm thinking I'd like to step up to a Flex rotary, I think I could work even faster than using the random orbital. Then again, I'm sure I'd end up stripping the paint off of the car, so I'm probably better of with the RO!

Default Re: 3-stage Buff Detail?

I have a friend in Queens that does Detailing he charges $150.00 to do complete detail inside and out. On exterior he starts with clay bar, compound, glaze then hand wax. Inside shampoos carpets, cleans interior and conditions leather and dash. PM me if you want his contact info
