Default OBD 2 bluetooth doesnt connect

Hey guys, i recently purchased a bluetooth obd2 connector to view my cars parameters on my phone. I have an 07 maxima. My phone is a windows phone. The app says that it is connected to the dongle and it initializes it but then it cant connect to the car. My question is, is this car obd2 compliant? Or is there a problem with my phone/dongle. Has anyone ever connected to their car via obd2? Thanks for your help!!

All cars in the US after 1996 are OBD2. The most likely culprit is your phone. It's probably looking for iPhone or android. Does it say that it will work with a windows phone?

Thanks for your replies.. I tried it on a few diff phones including an android one and it still doesn't work. The phone connects to and initializes the Bluetooth obd but when it says connecting to car it fails. Is there something I have to configure in the car to allow it to connect? Is there a way that maybe the previous owner blocked the obd? Thanks!!

Which bluetooth connector did you buy? I mean did you get a high end, mid range, or did you scrape the bottom of the barrel?

I got a cheap one on eBay. I tried the adapter on a Camry and it works perfectly so the problem is with the car.. Any ideas why it shouldn't work?

Bad ignition switch or a blown fuse could be the culprit. Do both of the little 12V ports in the car work?

Ya

It's funny because the adapter lights up when plugged in and my phone can pair with it. It just can't read the car..

That doesn't mean much. I would still check your fuse box first.

After that, I would go to autozone to see if their scanner can pull the codes. If they can, your scanner just doesn't like your car for some reason.

Does this scanner have its own power source or does it power up from the 16 (13, 20, 30??) pin connector?

It powers from the connector.

Which fuse would it be? How do I check it? I'm a noob...

It would be the same one that powers the cigarette lighter or 12 v bank.

Another possibility is a couple of bent pins. It would still power the unit, but if previous connectors were a little rough one of them could have bent. If you have a couple that aren't making a good connection it would still power the until but it wouldn't make a good enough connection to get a read.

Let me know what you figure out. There are plenty of other things it could be, that's just a good jumping off point.

Thanks for your help.. I checked the fuses and they looked alright.. There didn't seem to be any bent pins.. But I noticed a small plug under the dash that was unplugged.. I'm not sure if its supposed to be like that or not. And I couldn't find a place to plug it in..

Have you tried taking it somewhere yet to use a different scanner?

Which ones are people getting and having good luck with? I don't care to get a nicer one.
