Yes buddy! I did it too. Not only does it sound better than the stock Bose but it also doesn't take up your trunk space like a box would.

I think

Advantages
1. Less weight
2. Always more space in the trunk, no removing boxes.
3. Stealth, less visible when you open the trunk.
4. Cost less.
5. Still sounds pretty darn good.

Disadvantages
1. Doesn't hit like 2 12in woofers in a box
2. Install is harder than installing a box.
3.

So with the door open and two 12"s he was flexing the roof. Talk about needing dynamat. James, did you ever do anything with the rattle besides stuffing the material between the deck? I would really like to hear this soon.

No, I haven't yet. I've been contemplating getting some to do the trunk side of the deck though.

I hear you. I think my plans are on hold for this now unless I come across something that simply can't be passed up. This would definitely by my choice though since I barely have trunk space now with the stroller and toolbag in the trunk.

Been getting some interest and questions, so thought I would bump this. I also got a new H/U. My Eclipse USB port quit working, so I the Mrs bought a new one for Father's Day. Got a Kenwood Excelon from Car Toys (they stink!) but the new Kenwood is nice. I'll get some better pics soon.

2 questions:

1) Can you post a link for 6x9 to 8" adapters, I have 6x9's in the deck.
2) If I can't some speaker adapters, I am going to just replace with some 6x9 subs and keep everything else stock. Anybody know the frequency range on the stock "subs"? I want to try to match them up with the rest of the Bose speakers in the rear doors.

I am also not looking for something to blow the doors off, I did that back in high school with 4 10" MTX Blue Thunders, and now I am paying the price, with loss of hearing. Yay!!

BTW, thanks for this write up Apollo.

Thanks!

1. Do you have 6x9 cut out holes or 8in cut outs in your deck?
Maybe something like this? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i...-brackets.html

2. Don't worry about the frequency of the stock subs, you just want something thats better.

This set up is perfect if you don't need to "pound the ground" anymore. I feel you on the hearing loss. Not bad but I need the tv louder that my wife and kids

Unfortunately, I have 6x9 cut outs... I am looking for something like what came with your DLS speakers.

Now that I think about it, the frequency range doesn't matter that much since only bass frequencies are coming from that stock Bose amp anyway.

EDIT: After going back and looking at your setup again, I realize the speaker adapters did not come your DLS's, they came on the rear deck with the stock "subs". My bad.

Yes good catch, maybe you can find some stock adapters in a junk yard or on ebay?

Are you going to power your subs with the stock amp?

I was thinking about it... the only reason why is because on a previous setup I was running them in a box where they were sharing the same airspace but I had one of them inverted. I was running them through a passive crossover straight from an aftermarket head unit that was only pushing 35 watts/channel. I figured the Bose sub amp has got to be pushing at least that. And also, I am trying to get away with doing this as cheap as possible.

Well, I think you can find an amp cheap enough on Craigs but also remember to watch the Ohm load. Too high, the amp won't push them. I don't know if that will work, but let us know.

I have found a place to get the speaker brackets, for me it's actually local.

It's part #27933F on the right side of the diagram.

Click the image to open in full size.

Good news:
1) We have a place to get the brackets/adapters for this type of setup.
2) $36 for 6th gens built after Jan. 2005.

Bad news:
1) $133 for 6th gens built before Jan. 2005.

I can't remember how I came across this info, I think it was lot of Googling and beer.

Glad you found them. Good thing I didn't need any, my 05 was built in 2004.
