Default Is A 'Stuck Out' Setup Possible

EDIT: Yes! You need the right wheel & tire combo & a stiff suspension!

I'm looking to upgrade from 18's to 20's or 19's (if I have to). I'm a big fan of the aggressive look that comes with a wheel and tire package that stands out farther than the fender
I've yet to see such a setup on a 6th gen which makes me question whether it's even possible on a 6thgen Maxima.

What I don't understand is how you can get the wheel and tire to clear the fender without rubbing?

Is such a setup even possible? If so- what wheel and tire dimensions would be necessary to clear, and what other modifications would be necessary? Thanks in advance.

You just need to get wheels that are wide with an offset that sticks them out. The picture seems to be a "hellaflush" style car except they forgot to lower it, or its on air, and it looks pretty terrible.

I haven't lowered my car yet but I plan on it to improve handling and looks if I feel necessary. The roads around where I am aren't super smooth but they're not bad either so I don't want too much rubbing if I go flushed and lowered. Do coilovers fit all cars?

yes its possible, aggressive offset wheels + camber is your solution. The way you get your wheels to stick out without rubbing is stretched tires, if you don't know what that is try youtubing it to get an idea. Heres a picture of my z with aggressive offsets and a crap load of negative camber to give you an idea of what youd be getting yourself into .

and this is what a stretched tire looks like...it allows the rim to "poke" out while keeping the tire slightly inside the fender

Are there only specific tires that you can stretch?

no, no specific tires. but beware, stretching a tire can be dangerous. you must know what size to stretch and if you stretch it to much you run the risk of busting the tire off the bead while driving.

If you are looking to do an aggressive setup, IMO coilovers are a must. 1) Lowering springs do not go low enough for it to look proper. 2) Lowering springs aren't stiff enough. 3) Lowering springs do not go low enough for it to look proper lol. For aggressive setups, more often than not fenders will have to be modified, whether it be rolling or shaving the fenders, or grinding stuff down. In the Maximas case, the fenders need to be shaved or rolled and the rear bumper mounts need to be ground down and relocated. Stretched tires will be dependent on wheel specs. And no, coilovers do not fit all cars. There are usually applications for certain model cars, we are lucky enough to several options.

Originally Posted by Sandwichmixto View Post

Yes and no. There ARE brands that are more highly recommended than others, due to sizing, sidewall characteristics, etc. Not all tires stretch the same, so one 245/35/20 can stretch completely different from another brand's 245/35/20, which can become problematic should you switch tires.

It sounds like you have a lot of researching to do. Don't jump into an aggressive/flush setup too fast, there's a lot of things that have to come into consideration.

my tires a super stretched and it still feels the same as when i wasnt running a stretch^. As far as specific tires to stretch yes and no. Like joecurr said some tires stretch better than others. I have nankangs and they stretch beautiful. Like it has been stated before do your research before you go for an aggressive setup. Theres no "how to" its just all a matter of your preferences and budget

Deadbolt mentioned that the 245/40/19 is the route to go for my wheels. I ordered them a few days ago and will post pics when I get them in. I have 19x8.5 fronts and 19x9.5 rear. Both ET35. I'll do another test fit with just the wheels and take pics of them. I'm planning to roll my fenders as well.
