Default Puddle Light & Inside Door Handle LED Install

Alright fellas, here's a quick DIY for installing the puddle and inside door handle LEDs. I'm going to start with the general procedure for the door panel and then break off into the puddle lights and door handle lights.

BTW: The puddle light was KCMAXX idea, the interior door handle was my own idea.

Click the image to open in full size.
Tools needed:
10mm deep socket and extension
T-20 Torx head screwdriver (Not pictured)
Flathead and Philips screwdrivers
Butter knife
Blue tape and electrical tape (or whatever way you use to connect wires)
2 different color wires, about 40 feet for both mods
LEDs (DUH!)
Metal wire (to snake wires between the doors and car, not pictured)
A 6-pack, your choice

Door Panel Removal

Click the image to open in full size.
Take the flathead screwdriver and stick it at the back end of the door trim piece and pull out. There's a slot there for the flathead. Starting pulling out, don't worry it shouldn't break that easely. Mine is blue because I painted it, yours will be a brushed alumnum color.

Click the image to open in full size.

Stick your hand under the door switches and push it up. Then take off the wiring by sticking a flathead onto the white clip and pulling it apart.

Click the image to open in full size.
There are 3 screws you gotta remove, two 10mm screws behind where the door trim was, and 1 behind the actual door handle. There's a little "door" there. Just stick a flathead and pop it off, you'll see a Philps screw in there. Then start pulling the panel away from the door starting from the bottom. The front panel can get tricky once the clips have released, but just lift the back end of the panel first and it should come off.

Click the image to open in full size.
When you pull the panel off you'll see 2 rods going to the back on the handle. The come off pretty easy. Then release the wiring for the door step light. The whole panel should come off the car now.

Door handle LEDs
Click the image to open in full size.
Once you take off the panel you'll see there are 4 silver Philips screws holding in the handle. Take those off. Then smack the handle towards the back on the panel, it'll come off in 2 pieces.

Click the image to open in full size.
Drill a hole for the LED in the middle of the handle. Make sure it fits snug, and then add some glue to make it stick. I used Krazy Glu. Add your wiring and then put the handle back onto the door panel. Don't forget the 4 screws that hold it in place. By this time you should've ran your wires into the door from the car using the metal wire. You can go the same route as the stock wiring goes. If you are also doing the puddle light don't connect anything just yet. If not then connect the wires.

Puddle Light
Click the image to open in full size.
Since you already have the panel off you'll see the tweeter housing. It's held in place by a 10mm screw and a clip. Once the screw comes off the clip is close to the window. Just pull the tweeter housing.

Click the image to open in full size.
Disconnect the wiring for the mirror. Behind where the tweeter was you'll see 3 10mm screws. Take those off. Be careful the mirro doesn't fall out. It shouldn't, but just be careful. The mirror wire plug will pass through the opening.

With the mirror off you'll see 3 Torx T-20 screws. Take those off and the mirror comes apart. (Sorry don't have a clear picture of it).

Now is the apart a lot of you guys have PM'd about, removing the glass off the mirror. I did a quick video, so here it is:http://s273.photobucket.com/albums/j...t=DSCN5583.mp4

If you have heated mirrors there will be a couple wires attached to the glass. Once you have the glass off drill the hole for the LED, run the wire same as the wires already in the mirror. The rubber gasket that sits between the mirror and door comes off so you can feed the wires better.

Run the wires into the car, but if you're doing the door handle lights just unite the wires.

FOR 04-06 ONLY
You can tap into the lights under the dash that light up when the dome lights come on as well. The light sockets twist out so you can get to the wires a little better. I have to verify, but I believe the red/green wire is the positive. You can use wire taps instead of cutting wires.

FOR 07-08
I'm waiting for Don (1Hawaii50) to see where you guys can tap into the for lighting.

Quick note: IF you blow your dome light fuse while installing these don't panic. It's going to be the 4th fuse down on the right hand side of the fuse box inside the car, by your left knee. It's called the BATT SAVER fuse.

Enjoy your LEDs.

Theres no need to wire anything to the lights under the dash.

What a nightmare that would be to hide.

Tap into the courtesy lights on the doors. It takes 5 minutes...

You are very right Mike, it was a pain in the ass to run the wires and hide them, but honestly, especially for the puddle lights if you tap into the doors it would be pointless, IMO. By the time you open the door you would've stepped in the puddle.

If you lightly sand down the LED it will scatter the light pattern giving you a wider light cloud vs. a solid beam.

You either need to pull the panel for the dome lights to access the wires, or you can pull the trim on the driver's side A-pillar. That's where the wires run from the dome, down the A-pillar, to the BCM.
