Default How to Remove Headlights, "Visual Instructions"

Hey guys i just recently painted the interior of my lights black to match my car. I just figured i'd write this post to help anyone out by giving "visual" instructions rather then "Text" instructions. So if you decide to tackle this project yourself like i did, hopefully you will gain enough confidence by the end of the thread to complete it succesfully. Here we go!

Start of by removing two phillips head screwsunderneath the bumper.

Next remove all plastic clips holding plastic cover underneath the engine.

Now, move plastic cover aside near the wheel to acess two vertical phillips head screws, remove those too.

Next, remove all plastic clips holding down the grille.

Also, remove all plastic clips holding down plastic cover over your windshild washer resevour.

Finally, remove plastic clip holding down bumper cover to car body.

You should now be able to pull bumper off of the body.

Now you are ready to remove headlight.

Disconnect small clip
Click the image to open in full size.

Disconnect what i believe to be a factory balase underneath the headlight.
Click the image to open in full size.

You will now need to remove 4 phillips head screws on the exterior portion of the headligt unit. (2 with a washer that hold wires in place 2 small ones without a washer that hold a bracket in place)
Click the image to open in full size.

Once these are off you should be able to remove the headlight.

Good write up.

Are all 6.0 Gens like this or is it because you have stock HIDs? My headlight assemblies came off with only removing the 5 hex bolts and disconnecting the one plug. I didn't have any of those screws or brackets to remove like the ones after your stock ballast pic.

I am not 100% sure if they are all the same. I have the elite package so mine might be a bit different. Thanks for the positive feed back guys. I decided to help out a bit, and give back, I don't want to be a leech lol

Just a thought... you don't need to unscrew the plug on the last picture. That's a plug, so you can unclip it by pressing down on the clip. Sometimes it can be a biatch to come off, but it will come off. I've taken my headlights out AT least 10 times, and all I do is unclip it from there. I don't take off any wiring until you before you bake the headlight.

I can relate, those things can be difficult to remove. I've even broken a piece of the plastic off trying to remove a clip similar to that. The screws came off fairly easy. Either way is fine.

Xenon or Halogen lights are taken off the way you described. The OP is just having a hard time removing the plug. That's why he opted into unscrewing it. I guess is another way of doing it. I always unplug them, though. A nice squeeze and firm pull. Pulled, lol.

P.S. Good Job on the pics man.
