Default How To Install Vertical Doors

Installed the Kit from Vertical Doors Inc. the other day, sorry it took so long, but heres everything you need to know.

THIS KIT INCLUDES:
8 M8-1.25X30MM BOLTS WITH WASHERS
RIGHT AND LEFT HINGE ASSEMBLY
2 SHOULDER BOLTS WITH WASHERS
2 SHOCKS 680 PSI
2 Pins
WIRE LOOMINS

TOOLS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION:
Spacers(for doors, use paint stick and wrap blue painters tape 8 to 10 times it works the same.)
Blue painters tape
Locktite red
Screw Drivers Fork and Phillips
Cutters
10mm, 12mm, 13mm socket and extension
Air ratchet, grinder and cutter
1/4, and 3/16 Allen wrench

Getting started

1) Disconnect the battery.
2) Remove Fender:
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.
-Remove all fasteners around the wheel well.
Click the image to open in full size.
-Remove the splash guard, which will allow you to remove the (2) 10mm bolts under fender.
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.
-Pull on the wheel well, this will allow you to remove (2) 10mm bolts (yellow arrows) securing the fender to the bumper
Click the image to open in full size.
-Now, carefully pull on the bumper to gain access to (1) 10mm bolt securing the fender to the body.
Click the image to open in full size.
-At this point you will be able to carefully remove the fender

3) Modify wire layout:
-You will need more wire slack in order for the Vertical Doors Inc. system to open all the way up.
-Open the door and use the fork to remove the factory wire boot.
Click the image to open in full size.
-Remove the foot guard and the kick plate this will give you access to (2) wire harness, remove the plastic clips securing them to the body, this will give you extra wire slack.(side note didnt really have to this, i just pulled the wire harness from behind the door, theres enough slack in there.)
-At this point you will have to remove the door panel to remove the door catch and to gain more wire slack from the door panel.
Click the image to open in full size.

4) Modify door:
-In order for the door to be raised without hitting the fender you will have to cut the plastic door panel as showed on the picture bellow. Use black door trim to give it a finish look.
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.
(Note: since the cut is being done in the front of the door, itís unnoticeable from the inside of vehicle.) yes this sucks but has to be done if you want them to go up.

5) Replace the door on the car and use painterís tape to secure the door to the body in preparation for factory hinge removal.
Use a 13mm socket to remove the factory hinges.

6) After you have removed the original door hinges, install the New Vertical Doors Inc. System. Make sure all mounting surfaces are flat.
--Note: you will need to use the original nuts on the doors.
Hint* Tighten the nuts on the door first then the bolts on the body second.
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

7) Once hinge is locked in place, break nut then turn Allen set screw until it hits the block. then open the door and continue to adjust until the door matches with the striker, open and close door making sure it closes like factory.
Note, the nut i am talking about is the nut/screw running horizontal. this is the probably the hardest part i think. break that nut all the way loose, while holding it screw it in using an allen key untill you can not screw in any more. then tighten up the bolt. If you do not hold the nut while screwing it in, the nut will move making it pointless and a big headache. open and close the door to see where you stand. adjustments are easy at this point. if the door drops a little low when you open it. Then close the door, break the bolt again and tighten the screw TIGHT. If it raises when you open do the opposite. Break the bolt and unscrew it. once you hit factory settings then tighten the bolt, but dont be to happy because once you install the shocks you are going to have to do it all over again.
Click the image to open in full size.

8) Install the shock.
Hint* (You will need a helper to raise the door). (Slip the spherical rod mount into the spherical ball bearing. Using a 1/4 Allen wrench, tighten the screw into the swing arm . After the shock is installed secure it by installing the pin in the bottom shock end .
note in the picture below, is the screw you are going to slip the shock into, make sure you grease the smooth end and put locktite on the threaded part.
Click the image to open in full size.
grease
Click the image to open in full size.
locktite
Click the image to open in full size.
placing the shock. not pictured is installing the pin at the bottom of the shock.
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

9) After shock is installed re-install door panel and lift the door. Adjust door opening screw clockwise until distance between nub and swing arm is enough so that the swing arm moves up and down freely.
white is the door opening screw, kind of covered by my hand sorry.
red is the nub and blue is the swing arm.
Click the image to open in full size.

Note: Do not install fender until the adjustment of the door is accurate, and the set screw is tightly secure. Also make sure everything is tight, adjustment is set and everything is Locktite.

10) Modify factory wire loom. You will have to open and raise the door, cut the factory wire boot in half and add included wire loom to protect exposed wires.
11) Cut the fender to make room for the new Vertical Doors hinge. Note: After you have cut the fender use a sander or grinder and make sure the surface is completely flat.
Click the image to open in full size.
Click the image to open in full size.

After that raise the door and replace the fender. And there you have it. to tell you the truth this came out great and saved me between 600 to 1000 buck installing it my self. so try it out guys if you want to buy the kit. cars in the shop as we speak, getting a new paint job. going with Le Mans Blue and Pearl Black.

That's a lot of work!

I like it, I wonder if that opens in a garage or does it hit the roof? Does it give you more or less room to get out?

You will gave plenty if room for a garage, the door opens up half the distance of stock, but more if you want to cut into your fender.(neverrrrrr) but lots of room with the door up, I've been swan diving in the car just for fun. Also its good for protection if someone tries to jack your car, because if someone is infront of the door and you open it, its a clear shot to the balls.
