Default How To Install Trunk Lift Supports

I finally got around to installing the trunk support arms I bought from Amazon.

The OEM lift never did seem so great and then after the sound deadening they really didn't work.

I bought the StrongArm 4078 Nissan Maxima Trunk Lift Support
One per pack, ordered two packs
Amazon.com: StrongArm 4078 Nissan Maxima Trunk Lift Support, Pack of 1: Automotive

Nice write up with photos.

Does your trunk have a spoiler? The spoiler makes the trunk lid heavy. I have the small factory spoiler most common on the 04' -06' SE models. Like this.

I replaced the shocks with Nissan factory brand. It still slams shut. I am always cautious closing the trunk. If these shocks will support the lid with the spoiler then I am interested.

I have the same spoiler as you plus sound deadening. It's not perfect but these are 100% better than the OEM lifts I took off. I still hold it out of habit but once lifted up a bit, there is no chance it will slam back on your hand, head, face etc.

Hmmm kind of interested, but I have the 07-08 spoiler, which is much heavier, and I also have sound deadening :/

Well you probably need something for sure then. The OEM lifts are really weak or else they wear out fast. I have a feeling mine were dead, yours maybe as well.

I can personally vouch for these. I ordered the same exact ones. Don't get Nissan brand because they are weak. I have the spoiler plus dynamat and the lid stays open even when its 3/4 closed. It will never slam shut. The OEM struts wouldn't even hold the lid open unless it was at full open position.

Good write-up. I did this myself a couple weeks ago. I grew tired of my trunk smashing my head every time a light breeze came around.

I just installed mine and they make a HUGE difference! If your trunk lid can't do this, you need new lifts/struts! (granted I don't have Dynamat in the lid)

Same here.

And actually what I noticed today - if I lower it and drop it from where I usually would to close it, it's not enough force for it to latch. I have to let it drop from higher or actually put a little pressure on it to make it latch. I'm REALLY not used to that!
