Default How To Install Resistors (If You Have LED Turn Signals)

If you have the LED tailights and switchbacks then you will need to install resistors to eliminated the fast blinking of the lights.

What You Need:
  • Quantity (2) - 3 ohm Load Equalizers (50 Watt LED Load Equalizer)
Note: Each side covers front and rear (up to 4 led turn signal bulbs total). For turn signal led bulbs, the equalizer must be spliced across the - ground wire and the + turn signal wire feeding each led bulb.

Where to Get it:

Price: $8.99 (Each) x 2

Order Link: http://autolumination.com/equalizers.htm

Install Courtesy of jsmithsole

----

Instructions on how to replace stock taillight bulbs with LED's (or can be followed for regular bulb replacement)

The load resistor simulates the resistance of the incandescent bulb and restores the turn signal to normal operating function with the led. Here's the diagram to install these:

Note:
When removing the taillight assembly, you do NOT just pull out the red glass.
The painted frame portion between the glass and trunk lid is a part of the taillight assembly..

Just to update that note in red....

I already had two 6 ohm resistors installed for my led switchbacks before I installed my Ruby Red led tails, and I did not have to change anything. Think the 3 Ohm resistors might be obsolete now (based on the built in resistors in the led tails).

so quick question, if I only have LED's in the front, can I still wire the resisters in the rear so I dont have to drop the bumper?

I know i don't need to do both, but its a lot easier to get at the rear, so can I put them just in the rear instead of just in the front?

Yea, the wiring was a bitch tho. Especially when I had to cut thru the leather.

So I figured I'd make it easy and just do it where the existing wire was already exposed in the trunk.

First off, I would like to thank Don, Maximus, Mando, & Gary for answering my questions. I tried to install it in the taillights and I got fustrated. So today, I installed them in the headlights and it was SOOO much easier, here are some pictures I took. Hopefully this is helpful.

Look for red/black & blue wires (don't touch the green & orange wire)
Click the image to open in full size.

Then strip both red/black wires & blue wires:
Click the image to open in full size.

Strip the ends of the resistors:
Click the image to open in full size.

Wrap the ends of the resistors to the exposed wires on the headlights:
Click the image to open in full size.

I electrical taped the hell of the wires to make sure it secure, no wires exposed and no moisture:

Here is my resistor on the metal part of the bumper, the passenger side is just hanging.

Wait, if you attached them to the bumper don't you have to take them off every time you remove the headlight? I was thinking of doing this too cuz I'm going to some switchbacks, and wanted to add them to the front but didn't want to put them on the headlight.

Nope, not necessarily. What I did was let them hang free and used some electrical tape to secure them so they don't swing around. That way, when you want to remove your headlights. All you got to do is remove the tape and your good.

Hope that helps

Good idea, thanks man. I'm planning to do it some time soon. Was talking with jsmith but since I had the LED tails I figured might as welll put the resistors in the front too. Thanks for the info. Is that the same color wire for both sides?

No problem man and yeah it's gonna be the same color on both sides. 6.5's have a slightly different set up. It's gonna be a bluish black and red wire that your gonna be hooking the resistors up too. Also, they should have included some splice taps with it. Make sure you crimp it on there tightly (the little metal pieces shouldn't be sticking up at all).

But, you got the right idea of putting some resistors in the front since the LED tails already have a built-in resistor.

To each his own but I found the back easier, and better because then they are completely hidden and out of the way...

I figured since I'm going to be taking the headlight off to install the switchbacks might as well do the resistors there too. I doubt I can get the bulbs in without taking the headligh off, plus my fingers are too fat.

Hey J, did you ever fix your saggy trunk?

Don't drop the bumper to install the bulbs, if you can't "fit" get some to stick their hands in there!

And as for the trunk, kind of. My whole trunk set up is a disaster right now....
