Default How to Install 07-08 Trunk Spoiler

This is bambino's write up:
Here it is:
6.5 gen spoiler (07 spoiler) on a 6 gen trunk.

You will need the following:
1. Power Drill
2. Play-Doh
3.Drill Bit Set
4. Measuring tape.
5. Blue tape if you are doing it alone.
6. Heavy Duty 16 Gauge wire kit (You will only need about 1 1/2 feet)
7. Black Electric tape
8. Regular metal hanger/ 3/16 rope

Click the image to open in full size.

1. Place (2 to 3) play-doh near where you think the holes might be.
2. Once you are sure you have a perfect fit and it's aligned properly, press down to create a mold of the holes.
3. You will need a 7/32 drill bit. (If I'm not mistaken) Just drill away with precision.
4. Direct Light cable through the hole. Keep it inside the trunk.

Click the image to open in full size.

5. Guide it through until you hit the left end side.
6. Pull out the rubber cable protector. (WARNING: it took me a very long time to make the cable go in and make come out the other end.)
7. Connect end of the regular light cable to the new extension cable (1 1/2 feet just to be safe) Tape naked connections.
8. Tape rope to the straighten out hanger end. Find your way through towards the right and through the hole of the back light, until it's visible from outside.

Click the image to open in full size.

Pull out rope and hanger end very carefully. Remove the tape and hanger.
10. Tie the end of the cable to the end of the rope
11. Pull rope from inside the car towards the 3rd light brake hole.
12. Expose 1/2 inch of the 3rd brake light cable and attach the ends of the brake light spoiler cable. Tape it up, plug 3 light cable unit to its original connection. and put it back in place.

Click the image to open in full size.

Don't forget to screw the screws to the spoiler, otherwise, bye bye mod.

Click the image to open in full size.

This should be your end result. Hope this helps future mods

Hope this helps out guys... good luck

Pull the housing back and up towards you, reach in an grab the light holder and twist it to unplug it. Then put the housing back in place.

1st thing I did after installing my LED tails since they matched the LED's in the spoiler, and those in the black box were regular.

I didn't have to add any extra wires. I just disconnected the third brake light and left it unplugged. Then with a test light I found the brake light wires right by the rubber boot that hooks up to the trunk lid. I actually had to cut some of the spoiler wires because they were too long. Just used T-clamps. As for the spoiler, I used grease and that's how I marked the holes, saved more cash.

Yes. They'll be around where the burger (emblem) is. Can't remember how people filled them though, I'm sure it's around here somewhere. You could also trade/buy another trunk lid that has no spoiler and then install the new spoiler.

A trade would be your best best because the holes will be visible one you switch. You'd have to get them filled and have you whole trunk re-painted...

Just take your time...it seems pretty straightforward.

Just installed mine today after work , i bought it off ebay pre-painted KH3 looks mint! If you are starting with a wingless trunk you have to drill 4 holes , 3 mounting 1 for the wires. And yes it is a little tedious feeding the wires through the rubber boot but hey ill take the extra time to have the piece of mind that it was done proper and clean. Also using a hair dryer while applying pressure to the wing 3m tape helps it stick better for future installers. If my trunk emblem didn't say SL you would never know it wasn't factory thats how good it looks !
