Default Exhaust Leak & P0420 Code

Hi All, I have a P0420 code and I looked under the car and noticed that the flex pipe looks like its in rough shape.. not sure if its leaking... If it is leaking will it set off the code? How can I diag. this without speading a ton of money on it?

I would assume that the problem is your bank 1 pre-cat which is the one on the firewall side, considering you dont have a p0420 it narrows it down to that or the downstream o2 sensor. I would take care of that asap before all that debris sucks back into the engine. Oh and its a pain in the butt to get the top bolts on that one.

This is an old thread, sorry- but does anyone know where i can find a How-to on replacing the right side cat? I have scoured the site and found only EddyMax's great write-up (with pics) on the O2 sensor. I've got the hood off, and the cowl out of the way...
