Default Windows Freezing

My windows all freeze when its below 30 outside. Takes almost 20 minutes while driving for them to warm up and open. The car is warmed up in about 5 minutes but the windows takes longer. I look stupid at the drive through. Starbucks. Is there anyway to prevent the windows from freezing?

Default re: Windows Freezing

What do you mean the windows all freeze?

Were they wet from some moisture and all iced up and will not open?

Are they just slow to operate when it gets below freezing?

I had a Cadillac with very slow windows in freezing weather. Someone said it was the motor going bad, but on all four windows at the same time? I doubt it. Someone else said the grease needed replacing.

I never found out what the problem was.
I sold the car.

I will be curious to see the answer to this problem.
Good luck.

I was told if you wash your windows with dish washing detergent that they won't freeze up, but I never tried it because my car is always parked in my garage. I'll have to have someone test that theory out for me.

They stick at the top. You can hear them trying to pull loose. One time I was able to use both hands to pull them down. Ice or no ice they freeze if its cold. I have a garage but its full of furniture.

Time to assess the value of the furniture over the value of the car. You may have the wrong stuff in the garage.

Amazes me when I see that! $10,000 worth of crap in the garage and a $30,000 sitting outside in the elements.

My neighbors ask why I always put my car in the garage. I tell that all my kids sleep under my roof.

Sounds like moisture is freezing the window to the seal.

No easy solution i know of except warmer temps.

I dont know how well it would work on the window gasket but I use WD40 on the door seals on my truck because theyre shaved and if they freeze theres nothing to grab to pull it open just spray it on a rag and wipe the seal down

That may very well be occurring, but that is not right. How many cars are out in freezing temperatures without this issue. Something is wrong.

This is how many people burn up the window motors or shorten the life of them by forcing the windows open. What you do bro is you point the side vents at the windows, full blast, cold air is ok too and let the car warm up for a minute. You can also take some deicing liquid that you would normally put in your windshield washer canister and spray it on the part that sticks. You can also use some warm water and pour it on there. Don't force the window open bro, you will burn the motor.

^^This is why people say it is a sign of the motor going bad. People continue to force it and do burn up the motor. I would try wiping the seals with wd40 first. Just the outside and don't just slop it on there. See if that helps. If not then simply deal with warming the car up longer or getting out of the car in the morning.

They tend to freeze at the bottom for me.
I carry around a used up gift card and slide it between the window and the seal to break them loose. You can actually hear the bits of ice breaking free.

I think it happens more often than you think. I've even seen it here in mild-winter south texas. Could be worn/degraded window seals or moulding or just high humidity & cold temps. People might not bring it up as much as they know how to deal with the problem, just a hunch...

I have the same problem - except it is just my passenger front window. My conclusion was that the motor was frozen/too cold because moisture is not always a factor. Sucks.. but works when the car is warmed.
