Default New To The Forum, Question About My Grille

Hey everybody, pretty new to the forum and this is my first post. I have recently just gotten into modding my 6th gen with a diy intake (Fujita filter mated to a MAF connector), it pains me to say this, Ebay catback (can't pass up a good sounding part for under $200). Anyway I am doing a few exterior mods like blacking out the roof and front lower section of the front bumper, and was just wondering if anybody has had any luck scuffing the chrome portion of the grill and spraying it with a textured or flat black, plastidip or whatever? I know i can just buy a new blacked out grill, but I hope this does not offend anybody, but i think they all look like crap. I want to keep the fitment of th oem grill but would love to get rid of the chrome.

sorry should have mentioned, it's an 07 frost white

Welcome!!

Trust me there is nothing wrong with the Ebay catback, cant beat it for the price. As far as your grill goes try Plastidip. If you look at my photos in my album,I used Plastidip on mine. Good luck!!

Welcome home!

I bought my OEM grille from another member who had it color-matched gloss black by a body shop. It looks pretty good. I don't know what steps they took to paint, but it's been holding up good.

You don't need to scuff the grill. Clean it really well, then wipe it down with Duplicolor prep spray. Then spray 3 coats of Duplicolor adhesion promoter, and then shoot your paint.

Welcome! As other members said, either Duplicolor or Plastidip work well.

You can do both but here's the thing:

Plastidip- not permanent and it will chip. However, can be removed and resprayed pretty easily.

Paint - more permanent that plastidip but will still chip. A bit harder to re-paint. Reason is you would probably have to scuff up the paint because if you just paint over you will see the bumps where the road chips were.

It also depends on the look you want, flat black or color-matching paint. Good luck.
