Default How To Remove PlastiDip From Car Body Paint?

hey guys so a few weeks ago i plastidipped my chrome roof strips, came out nice but i guess paint sprayed on non taped areas (didnt remove strips off car) there are very light coats on spots of the car, during the day time you can see them and it looks fairly ugly and i tried washing it off and usually plastidip is easy to remove, but very light coats, not so easy, ive washed my car about 10 times since painting them and the plastidip refuses too come off the car paint, ive tried from extra scrubbing at the self wash, too goo-gone to just trying to rub it off with my fingers and it still wont come off, any ideas PLEASE help, it looks really ugly on my car during the day and sticks out after i wash it when the rest of my car is clean, my car is black and i can still see spots of plastidip, please help

A high speed buffer would work.

Default Re: How To Remove PlastiDip From Car Body Paint?

I this it was Raz76 that had a post about the difficulty of trying to remove Plastidip that had been on the car for a while. You may have etched the clear coat, in which case your only hope is going to be to use a buffer and some polishing compound. If you have never used a buffer before, I would recommend taking the car to someone who knows what they are doing. If you use a rotary buffer on the car, it is fairly easy to burn right through the paint.

should have taped it off better! but to help, try just scrubbing WITHOUT water. maybe it's been on for too long now, but with plastidip, you should never try to get it off with water...it just won't work.

I don't know but I would not have gas anywhere near my clear coat. Just because you cant tell doesn't mean you didn't lower your clear in that spot. Th best advice would have been to better tape areas that you don't want painted, otherwise painters job would be so much easier if they could just not take anything and just paint away. Im not trying to be a dick but that's how it is guys.

Man, when I have over spill from the gas pump on my car, I IMMEDIATELY get some water and rags and wipe it off. If not that, I use the squeegee from the gas station and wipe the hell out of it.

WD40 ironically enough works lol, i believe any petrol / propane based compound will do it. I even used plastic dip to remove plastic dip, yes it worked lol, because the solute it uses breaks it down, spray and wipe, you will need a lot of towels though, heavy paper ones, spray once then wipe with wd40 after a couple seconds, best method I found

Waxing will not remove it, compound might but professionally recommended because if you don't know what your doing, you will do more damage then fix it.

Wax worked for me. I had a small amount of over spray on the back bumper. You know a small spot here an there. Put wax on the bumper let it haze an wiped it off. Unless he has alot .. I was thinking he just had a few little spots..
