Default How To Change Glove Compartment Light

So today I changed my glove compartment light and decided to take some pictures to post on here just in case people are confused like i was.

Tools needed-
:Philips head screw driver or power drill with Philips head

Step 1:Open your glove compartment and if you look at the top where the latch is, there are 4 screws, 1 on the far left, 1 holding the left side of the latch, 1 holding the right side of the latch, and 1 on the far right, take all of them out

Picture 1-left side
Click the image to open in full size.

Picture 2-right side
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 2-Now your glove compartment should be loose and ready to drop down a little bit, drop it down by pulling down on this little slot, so you don't damage anything
(it's located on the center of the top portion of the glove box, where the light is visible)
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 3:The bulb socket is visible from the top, you want to twist the brown part holding the bulb off by twisting to the left
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 4: Insert your new bulb, if it doesn't turn on, insert it the opposite way.
Click the image to open in full size.

Step 5-Insert the bulb back into the socket by twisting it too the right.

Click the image to open in full size.

Step 6-The glove compartment has 4 tabs that need to go in there proper inserts, once you have all of them inside the glove compartment will be able to hold up by itself without the screws, here are the pictures of the tabs

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

I couldn't get a picture of the fourth one because it was too dark, but you'll see it

Step 7:screw the 4 screws back in, with the latch facing down, if the latch faces up the glove box won't close, once those screws are back in you're done.

Any questions feel free to ask

lol, this is the perfect way to get that socket back in its place if you accidentally lose it while replacing the bulb.

LOL...that is what i ended up doing in the end. Used the latex glove trick to get the stock bulb out right. BUT in the same process i twisted the socket just enough so that when i went to put the LED bulb in, the socket went bye bye.

Lesson learned: Don't twist the bulb while trying to remove it.

Good job.

Btw, your headlights have to be on for that bulb to turn on, did you turn your headlights on right after replacing that bulb?

I did the same thing. Installed the bulb and it wasn't working. Thought maybe it had a short so figure screw it. It dawned on to me that the headlights had to be on for it to work when i opened it up later that night.

It happened to me too. I got pissed and started looking at the FSM where i read that atleast the parking lights have to be on before the glove box light will come on. Atleast i did not start tearing more stuff apart like i would have at work.

Yessir, but it only turns on when your headlights are on, and the bulb isn't that visible

Is this a trick question?

I would think all 6th gen Maximas and above would all have a light in the glove box. I would venture to say, probably the first Maximas way back in 1981? had a light in the glove box.
