Default Headliner Install Difficulty?

Hey guys so I figured it's time to give my interior a
New look, for those who have done it, what's the difficulty rating on wrapping my headliner and pillars in new material? I already spoke too @DarkDog and got amazing prices for new material, but was wondering if this is worth trying myself

I'm def a "do it yourself" kind of guy. That being said, I would pay someone to do the headliner...that is something that I found to be a true pain.

It depends if you feel up to it.
Here is my take on this. The headliner itself is not difficult to fabric at all. Just use quality adhesive and spray both sides let it tack and apply.

What is difficult is getting the headliner out of the car. I have removed my front and rear glass as I was re-skinning the roof so it was a breeze. I tried to take it out per the FSM as I have a spare headliner and that wasn't going to cut it....maybe I was not tilting it properly and I was by myself that day. I assume removal of the seats/door would make it no problem, but I didnt go that far.

Also what is difficult is the pillars in the middle. Because of the curves involved you need to pick a thinner fabric that has stretch in it or you won't be able to wrap it. Once you take the side pillars off, you have to grind off the plastic welds, then re-skin, then re-epoxy in order to have the seat belt height adjustment functional.

To answer your question directly, the difficulty level is about 7-8.

Hope this helps.

Getting the headliner out and back in without creasing it are your biggest hurdles.

The headliner is removed through the passenger side front door. You just need to recline the seats and put them the whole way back. It's not that hard in a BMW.. The doors are a good size in comparison to the headliner. Removing your seats and console does make it easier, but it's totally unnecessary.

As far as stretching around contours, the material we were discussing was a standard 3/16" headliner foam. It's an exact OEM match and will form very easily with just a little patience and care.
