Default Fuse Keeps Burning Out

Good morning 6th Gen, I have a problem. My fuse that controls the park light, brake light and part of the dash keeps burning out, since Friday I noticed when my headlights come on the other lights didn't, I changed the fuse Saturday morning and by Saturday night was out again, changed it again and it burned out this morning.

Use a higher fuse than the one you are using. Perhaps a higher amperage will accommodate the current flow much better. Also by any chance do you have any loose wires that is touching the body of the car, since the whole car is the grounding source a power wire could be touching it causing the fuse to blow out.

Please don't ever do this. No offense dude, I like you but that is just really bad advice. Im not electrician but when a fuse that is there to protect the system blows, it means there's a problem. If you just install a higher amperage fuse, it can potential catch the car on fire because instead of a 5cent part blowing, that problem will melt a wire and potentially catch on fire. Path of least resistance is the fuse, don't want to make it the car.

OP, you have a short somewhere,. Have you installed a stereo or done anything electrical before this started happening?

Yeah find out the cause as Raz mentioned. Using higher amp fuses will only add more fuel to the fire. Never do that.

I had my system installed for a couple of months now, but I recently had to change the the fuse that's in front because the people who installed it but the battery fuse for the system on top of the car battery and it caused it to melt.

You need to figure out the problem, NOT change to a larger fuse. Look at the last change that was done to the car, and start there. You have a short somewhere...

Maybe you have a bulb blown. I had this happen on an old car that I had. A brake light blew and somehow part of the filament fell onto the other working filament in the bulb (2 filaments in the bulb - for park and brake) causing a short. I put in a larger fuse just long enough to find out which bulb had blown. I replaced the bulb, put the proper fuse back in and everything was fine.

ok right there , that statement alone sounds the red alert.

if its melted then they must not have the right gauge wire for the system.

I meant to put for a while until you found the problem, but not to keep it in there after you found it. I was rushing when I typed that, sorry if anyone got mislead by it.

Even for a short time is not a good idea. If he keeps burning them, there's a problem, the first time he puts a bigger fuse in there, that wire will burn out and then he will be left with a bigger problem. He needs to address the issue, not put a band aid over it. Bottom line, don't ever put a bigger fuse in there when you keep burning the one that's in there.

Unless he has a voltmeter and checks for resistance and amperage of each wire he's going to keep having that problem. Take it to a shop and have them check the wires for you, if you're not experienced in electrical work. Also by any chance do you have any aftermarket tail lights or did any wiring that consists of any lighting inside the dash or anywhere else that would effect the parking lights.

He doesn't need a voltmeter for this issue. He just needs to back track when he installed the stereo. He will find his issue there, promise. Either wires melted or one, maybe few of them are exposed and touching metal or another exposed wire.
