Default Chrome Roof Strips Protective Tape??

hello weird thing i found out about my car the other day. like most 6th gen owners the chrome strips fade and look terrible.
long story short i noticed mine were dingy but had air bubbles on certain spot as if there were a protective laying covering it. i started to peel away and there it was brand new beautiful chrome under the dingy fused tape.

haven't taken off all the tape yet only on a certain spot but i will upload some pics later and show how there's chrome underneath it!!!

could it be possible that the previous owner never took off a protective tape off it???

I also have this problem. The ones next to the back window are perfectly shiny but the ones on the roof look like shit. There doesn't appear to be a tape on them but I took aluminum polish to it and rubbed it vigorously. They came out pretty nice but about a few weeks later they were faded again. My car is Radiant Silver, but if I cant get the strips back to chrome, I will plastidip them black. So I am also interested how to get them off!

The front strips cost 110.00 each and the rear section is 275.00 each side. What ever route you choose be careful not to ruin them. You'll have a hard time finding these used.

That's ridiculous! Why would the rear ones cost more than double when they are half the length?

No didn't take them off just taped about 2-3in away from both sides of the strip(2-3in down toward door and 2-3 away from the strip on the roof).. After it was dry I took the tape off and then peeled the 2-3in of extra dip off and done pretty easy once you do it actually..

It's not just the strip, it's the whole back piece with the black part as well.

The back ones are real easy to take off, one screw at the bottom and 4 clips that pop right out

Oh, okay. So, I'm trying to picture it in my head. Silver with black strips. I don't think it will look good but I'm kind of short on options. What do you guys think? Keep in mind that my wheels are going to be gloss black.

i sanded mine down for smoothness, taped off the surrounding area and plasti-dipped em.

it was my 1st time using plasti dip and it came out perfect. super easy to do, just hit it with like 2 coats and you should be good.

Plast-dipping is the most popular choice for cleaning up roof strips. The only thing I don't like with Plasti-dip is that after a few months it starts to look "dingy" would be the best way to put it. The other thing is that it doesn't like wax. I wax my car a lot and when I had Plasti-dip on the strips I had to be careful not to get any on it, it doesn't come off easily.

HOLD ON!!!!!!! Recently I got the CHrome Strips to look like new again. I will post pics when i get home. I did this by sanding them down with some low abbrasion sand paper i got in the "turtle wax scratch repair kits". All i did was wet the area down and step through 3 different sanding pads. Then buf withthe buffing compound. You could actually see the oxidation on the Strip coming off. I still have to do the passenger side, i dint want to do it till i took pics for the forum.

Pics to Come Shortley.

I could see the stuff coming off when I used Mothers Aluminum polish (which is slightly abrasive) and it turned out looking almost chrome again, but it didn't take long for it to look shitty again. So how long has it been since you sanded yours? Because I don't want to have to do that shit once a month. So if your method keeps it looking chrome for a long time, I would like to know!
