Default Auto Dim Side View Mirrors

I just bought my 07 Maxima and I am wondering how to tell if your auto dim side view mirrors work. like they're supposed to. I have had a few cars with bright lights(bright to me at least) behind me but don't seem to do anything. I am waiting for a cord for the interior rearview mirror(it was missing when I bought the car), would not having the rearview mirror cable hooked up effect the side view mirrors?

Default Re: Auto Dim Side View Mirrors

I actually have some insight and also a question to add. First off, mine came stock fully loaded SE. Your rear view mirror has a button. If its lit up GREEN, the auto dim is on. The mirror will turn noticeably darker. If you want to test this , have a friend at night put their headlights on you then turn off the light and watch the mirror get brighter. I can see the contrast.

Anyways my question is is it possible for the tinting function to break? My passenger side view NEVER dims. And I know some members say it may be an 04-06 that had fully dimming mirrors. I have an 08 fuly loaded and only the driver and rear view dim. Help. Lol

The anti-dazzling function is controlled by the rear view mirror. The FSM shows both of the outside mirrors in the wiring diagram.

On my 07 SE both side mirrors dim along with the rear view. Its like it turns almost a green shade when bright lights hit it.

Alright. Mine is a 07 SE fully loaded with every option. It must be because the rear view is missing the wire.I can't wait for the dealer to get the part in. I work third shift so coming and going to work would be easier.

So here's my question. I have a fully loaded 08 with navi. There is no way that one mirror does not dim. I bought this car used.. Maybe the person smashe that one and replaced the mirror with a cheapie one? The driver says AUTO DIM but the passenger does not. I want to replace it so it works. I am assuming I shouldn't be doing any wiring because it should be pre there

Correct, if the car came with auto-dimming mirrors, then the wiring should be there...unless someone removed it.

So all I should have to do is reconnect the wiring to the mmain mirror? Where does the wire go from the back of the mirror?

I have figured it out. The person who owned the car before me or the stealership unplugged it and hid it under the roof lining.

With that being taken care of I have a question about the bluetooth on the car. The light by the map lights is constantly blinking when the car is on and when I push the button on the steering wheel there is no kind of prompt beep or whatever it is supposed to do when you press that button.

Any ideas?

Glad you figured out the mirror. As far as the bluetooth, I'm afraid I can't help you...I've never used the bluetooth function in my car. I typically always have people in the car with me and it's awkward to hold a conversation that everyone listens in on!

Just a sidenote if you want to test your dimmers on the mirrors the sensor is on the back left side of the rear view mirror. on a bright day or hell any day just cover it with your finger or a dark piece of material and you can see them all dim.

Thanks for the tip but I found the problem with the mirrors. The cable was hidden and unplugged. Plugged it back in and all fixed:-)

I'm still confused. So ALL except for my passenger side view dims. How do I inspect without destroying anything? (First time touching the assembly).

Is the mirror the thing that dims? CB somebody take a picture of said wire? Is it just a plug and play kind of thing?

They should both should say auto dim. If one was replaced without auto dim it will not dim. You more than likely will need to buy a new mirror for the passanger side.

True. So it's the special mirror I need. How hard is it to mess with side view mirrors? I'm afraid of breaking it. It's inside the housing... So idk how to get it out

I think you need a whole new mirror assembly including the housing. I'm not sure how they are wired. I never had to replace one. It also may be easier than trying to just take the glass out in putting the new one in.

So let me clarify and get something straight....

If you had a loaded 08 SE package with features including auto dim mirrors, SHOULD ALL 3 DIM? My gut and hunch is that the woman who owned this before me clipped off the mirror and had it replaced. I can take pics, but my driver side view says auto dim and my passenger does not. However my rear view and driver side dim automatically

Yes all 3 should dim and the 2 side view mirrors should say auto dim. I have a loaded 07 SE and both say auto dim.

Mother F'er. That DEFINITELY means foul play with my car. So I ask you forum buddies.... Is 300+$ worth an auto dimming , heated mirror? From the previous posts I assume my car has the wiring there for the mirror.. Pardon my French but the BITCH that owned this before me cheaped out and bought the shit mirror. Idk what to do. I don't have tint anymore and when somebody brights me , ad all but my passenger side view DIMS I still get blinded by the light. Sigh.
