Default Auto A/C Unit Faulty

Hi guy's,
I wonder if anyone has come across the following air conditioner problem. It is a fully automatic temperature unit with individule temperature for either side in a NZ Nissan Maxima J31 series 11 Ti.

If the air conditioner is turned off leaving natural air to come inside, the air temperature is several degrees higher than ambient. Doing checks from the service manual, I find the temperature sensor placed on the evaporator inside the unit reads as though the temperature is some 15 deg C below what it actually is - thus the computer is heating up the air to compensate.

The service manual shows the thermister resistance at ambient but unfortunatey it is very difficult to get at and needs the whole air conditing unit to be removed
including opening the fluid lines etc - a major job. From my electronic experiance I find it difficult to belive the sensor resistance could be that far out. (open circuit or short circuit yes) but such a major change of resistance it is unlikely.
Maybe I am totally on the wrong track !
The original owner never knew there was a fault as he always used the airconditioner. In these days of high petrol prices I would like to not have to run the aircon all the time.
Any ideas please
Eddie

I know nothing!!!

May I suggest that you just run your air conditioner as normal. There is not a significant savings in petrol by shutting down the system.

Enjoy the cold air.

Have you tried taking your car to the Nissan dealer to make sure it's faulty?
