Default No Coin For New Wheels... Spacers For Stock 17s?

So the wife and I had some discussions tonight and let's just say a new set of 18/19s for the Max isn't in the cards (more to the point, I can't justify them when we're planning on doing some much-needed home improvements we've been putting off for years!).

It's not like I *hate* my 17s... I still have a staggered set of 350Z anniversary wheels (may look into refinishing and finding out which one(s) are bent), but what I miss most is the look the Z wheels had in terms of the more appealing offset. Could I possibly run a small spacer to push the stocks out a tad without causing issues? I have a full size spare I'm going to use as a guinea pig for color options, and if all goes well, possibly paint the stocks come Spring.

Any help would be appreciated guys and gals!

spacers are usually the best mod too wheels besides changing them, what color is your car maybe we can help you out on color options for your wheels

2005 SL, Red Opulence.

I had thought about bronze (not Duplicolor though... I'll have my dad shoot them with his PPG setup), gunmetal seems to dark to me, at least from the photoshops I've done. I'll post them later on today.

This has potential... Duplicolor bronze i found on a 350Z, of course I'd have to prep/paint+clear, but I kind of dig it. Not sure how it'd look on my stock 17s though (these look to be 18s).

Thoughts?

I agree, that color complements the Maxs color very well.

I am leaning this direction... Going to do some research on PPG's website and try to find just the right paint code. Thanks for the input guys, it's appreciated (and not busting on my wicked awesome PS... it was late and I did a crappy job on the front tire )

OK, I think I know the direction I'm going. Since I have a spare 17" stocker that fell victim to West Virginia I-64 road construction a couple years ago, I'm going to prep and go with a two-stage paint approach. Matte black + bronze, saw some examples of it and it's pretty impressive. If it goes well I'll post some pics... next week we're slated to be getting a good amount of bad weather, perfect opportunity to mess around with the project.

Feeling pretty stoked about it actually

I'm not sure if you would want to go this route, but I love white wheels on red cars..

Actually hit a site called rarerims.co.uk that has a pretty nice selection of wheels, not to mention a visualizer tool that works pretty well... and the white wheels actually set it off. I've seen them on true red (ie Ferarris for example) and it's a pretty cool look. Not sure I'm that brave though

i think that would be a waste, when i prepped my wheels for paint i used a white primer that looked exactly like flat white paint and it looked almost stock since our stock wheels are very light in color, and the wheels are too small to be painted white, just my opinion though

OP i say go with the bronze it would look hawtttt

Plans were derailed this weekend, my downstairs thermostat decided to go out, so I replaced it with a programmable, cleaned up the pitiful excuse for premise wiring, and did some work around the house. Going to order the black primer and duplicolor bronze tonight and possibly a lighter top coat for after the last wet sand on the bronze... and of course plenty of clear.

I'll post some pics soon, put the old Nikon D3100 to good use right?

Quick update... Max is at 82k now, so I'm thinking I'm going to bit the bullet and do springs+shocks+struts (not a big drop, probably going with Tein S or Progress front and rear with KYBs)... roads around here are horrible, so no need to go with coilovers.

Anyway, I'm still going to work on the spare (read:bent) stock 17, scuff, black primer + Duplicolor bronze to get a feel for how it'd look. Ordering the paint tonight actually
