Default 18's Vs. 20's

Ok so....

My wife had to drive my car today because I had to get a dent fixed so she had to take it. After it was fixed she drove the car to where I work to basically "get rid of it". She absolutely hates driving it. She said its drive very rough and doesn't feel smooth at all. I do have to agree with her on that, its not a super comfortable ride at all.

Im thinking a lot of it has to do with the 20's...possibly springs as well, but I think the 20's are a big problem. With my son going to be driving her car I need to make the Max comfortable for her to drive. Do you all think the 20's are the reason for the rough ride? For those that switched from 18 to 20,did you notice a big difference?

I didnt notice to much different in ride going from 18's to 20's. I thing there are alot of variables to go into ride quality. Different springs, shocks, and even different tire brands will make a difference in ride quality. That is just my thoughts.

I went from 18 to 20s and felt a little harsher ride ,but it was because of the tires.I put a different set of good tires cant tell the difference now...........

It has to do with the tire profile & also because your dropped on springs. Remember when your dropped, the strut is compressed more so it has less travel causing the car to be more "stiff". The tire profile, you might have 245/45/18 - 45 being the profile so its a lot of rubber vs lets say 245/30/20 or something... 30 being less rubber so you feel more of the bumps!

If you keep the 20s an go up in profile size, remember that it'll throw your speedometer off a little. Just sayin'.

Im lowered and when I had the 18s the ride was not Cadillac but it was a lot more comfortable then the 20s. You would think that a 35 tire and 45 is not a big deal but it make s a huge difference.

I know. This is where I'm torn. I'm not sure how it would even look with 18's, it's been so long.

Tires selection is more limited and the prices tend to be a little higher.

true that, but if you want to keep the nice appearance of wheels and comfort i would say break the bank a little, other than that, it might be your springs bothering your wife, my friend at the gym has a 6.5 gen on 20's with stock suspension and i cant really tell the difference from my car with 18's and progress springs

i was thinking of getting something VERY similar to those in 18's so i can keep my comfort and affordable tire size, but the only reason i would go 18's is because im eventually going to get coilovers and drop it really low

thes are the ones i was going to get

This is wherei get confused. This shell has an offset of 45,is that too much?
Those look nice, the site shows them in +37 offset also which would be better, my new 18s are 18x9 +42 front and back, I saved some money by transferring the tires from my stock wheels. They are not as flush as the 20s I had but I might get some 5mm spacers in the future.

They have both 37 and 45 offsets. Aren't stock 18's +45???

The stock 18s are 18x7.5 +40, so if you go with these I would suggest getting them in the +37 the +45 will sit farther in.
