Default Will My Alternator Die?

I have a 2000 watt rms system at 1ohm hooked to my car. The lights dim a little (can only tell by looking at the tail lights). I will be doing a Big 3 upgrade and a grounding upgrade. Is that enough to help my alternator? I don't want to have to worry about premature failure. I'm also thinking of a kinetik batt but not sure if I should replace my stock batt with it or add it to my system.
Thanks

2000 watt rms isnt enough to damage your alternator bro

do the big 3 upgrade with true 0 gauge wire

i have 2 batteries in my car kinetik 1400 under the hood and kinetik 2400 in the trunk, run them in paralell and no more dimming lights + youll have enough power to maintain your system healthy (i highly suggest doing the same)

you should be good from there on bro

btw im running 4 rockford fosgate amps in my car totalling about

3000 true rms according to birth sheets with all 1 gauge rockford fosgate power wire/ground

first do you have a battery cap ?

second do you turn it up very loud to thump the speakers around town ?

I dont know about you guys but i went thru (2) alt in my5thgen with only 1000rms with a battery cap. (end up getting my alt winded to more amperage)

also I suggest you dont turn the car off anytime to play your music

Yes I turn it up every once and then, no cap just straight to the batt which I dont even know the brand of,lol. Its a hofonics 2010d (not the best but gets the job done). Basically I dnt want to have to spend to much just for a system , I might downgrade to smaller subs since I have no trunk space at all I have 2 ported single boxes in the trunk with 2 cvx 15s.

You should be fine. Generally Hifonics is a little over rated on their power specs so there shouldnt be an issue.

Hifonics are definitely over rated but they're good amps speaking from experience, just downgrade to 2 alpine type r's, 1000w Rockford Fosgate amp, and call it a day

Yeah bro, get 2 kinetik batteries 1400 under good, 2400 in trunk, 0-1 gauge big 3 upgrade and your good to go, my bmw has an insane system, and Kinetik does the job bro just take my advice, but If you can, upgrade your alternator that would be nice too

Im using a Autozone Duralast gold top with a ground kit and I dont get too much dimming at all. When I really crank it(which I do alot) I get some very minor dimming. Im running a Image Dynamics 1200.1 wired at 2ohms,out put is about 900 watts rms. Im also using an Exile 800.4 that is rated at 160 watts rms x4. You should be good to go...

Honestly, I dont think you need two batteries with what you have. Just upgrade your grounding and a better battery under the hood and call it a day.

Agreed. Guys that are running 2 batteries really neeed them. If youre running a 4000 watt sub amp along with an active setup you'd need it...

Yeah but then in that case you would be working your alternator like a champ, to be on the safe side I would recommend to use two, Check this out

Kinetik High Current Power Cells

That's what's used to determine what you need to let your car/system run smoothly

Youre right ideally 2 batteries are great. Most people dont want to have to deal with that extra expense. For me, I will do this one day myself. To be honest Im not 100% sure how to go about doing this on the Max. Care to share how you did it??

There are two ways that I know how to do it

1)run in parallel, run a positive wire from your engine battery to a separate battery say in the trunk, and ground the trunk battery to the rear chassis, but running 2 batteries in parallel means you need both of te batteries to be brand new and installed at the same time so they both run equally through the life
Of your car. But when running in parallel you would need to upgrade your alternator because with our stock alternators it would put way to much strain on it and that Can give us problems in the long run

2nd way)is to use a relay, a relay is basically like your secondary battery being connected to its own alternator but without having 2 alternators, the relay is hooked up to 5 main sources which are constant power, ignition, alternator, power and ground. It's really confusing to explain in words lol I should make a detailed thread about it when I have time.

In my opinion use a relay, it's pretty simply and straight forward to install, here's a pretty good one
http://www.google.com/m/products/cat...d=0CCsQ8wIwAA#

I ran mine in parallel for now because I was planning on upgrading my alternator anyways, but might change it to a relay because when I got my Max I had a massive system planned but I changed my
Mind so I gotta change that up a bit

Edit: i just read that you have a 1200 rms amp, bro in my opinion, the best thing to do is to relocate your engine battery to the trunk and just throw a Kinetik 2400 in there and call it a day, that'll give you more than enough power, you won't need to spend on extra relays or alternators, and won't need to go through the trouble of spending on two batteries

In my opinion use a relay, it's pretty simply and straight forward to install, here's a pretty good one
battery relay - Product Details

I ran mine in parallel for now because I was planning on upgrading my alternator anyways, but might change it to a relay because when I got my Max I had a massive system planned but I changed my
Mind so I gotta change that up a bit

Edit: i just read that you have a 1200 rms amp, bro in my opinion, the best thing to do is to relocate your engine battery to the trunk and just throw a Kinetik 2400 in there and call it a day, that'll give you more than enough power, you won't need to spend on extra relays or alternators, and won't need to go through the trouble of spending on two batteries

How do you have it mounted?

My grandpa welded a case for it basically what your battery holder looks under your hood, but under it has 4 metal strips coming out of it where he put screws through it, let me get off my
iPhone and get on the computer I'll try to look for pics or if I can't find them I'll just draw a picture to give you an idea of what it looks like

Ps. It is located were the spare tire would be

@07maximan

this is pretty much how it looks, i couldnt find actual pics, so i used my lack of computer skills to draw the best picture i could lol

Click the image to open in full size.

-The battery is drawn in red

-the black hollow frames around it is how the frame is fabricated to fit around the battery to hold it in place from all sides

-the black solid frame pieces at the bottom are frame pieces that are welded to the case of the battery to hold it down with screws

-the yellow things are the screws and where the screw holes are in the frame to bolt down the battery case to the spare wheel location

-and the grey circle around it is the spare tire location

heres a top view as if youre too look at it if i remove the trunk carpet liner and look into the spare tire location
