Default Static Noise With AUX Input?

Hello,

In my '08 Max I have the AUX input. Is this normal, when you are on AUX, nothing is plugged in, and you crank the volume, I hear a noise. Like a static, constant whine. IS this normal? I did have some wiring done and then removed in terms of a hardwired iPod cable...could that have ^&$'d up my AUX input?

Feedback would be great

-Mike

It is very possible that somethingle went screwy, with the hardwiring of the ipod cable

Crap. It only happens when you turn the volume up...would this make a difference? It's like the sound you'd hear if you were cranking the volume to the max but no song was on. If it's at low low volume you won't hear it. So it goes up and down proportionately. Still /confused

I've had this happen but I don't have hardwiring, I just have regular aux cables. I usually have to make sure both ends are plugged in all the way or you just need a new wire.

"nothing plugged in" as in both ways or the wire is plugged in on the aux input but nothing plugged in on other end? On my aux it only has static when the wire is connected to the aux but not connected to any iPods or anything? When not in use I suggest unplugging wire from both sides bro maybe that's what's messing with your aux

its called signal to noise ratio...the wiring inside the radio itself is not insulated enough allowing noise from the outsude to penatrate, its probably some small wiring that is soldered up inside that is giving you that issue the stock radio is sh*t hands down i suggest you go after market

Hmm. Well I was referring to when I had the car on AUX mode and i had no cable plugged into anything. Nothing into the aux port or an ipod. There is a staticcy noise as you crank the volume. Actually after I heard what they said I put the aux cable in (which is new) and plugged the other end into the ipod. With the ipod paused, i cranked the volume, and it didn't make the noise. So i guess it's fine.

But why does it make a noise when nothings plugged in? Is this normal or did some wiring go bad? Because it's not a huge deal; i'm obviously not gonna have the car on aux with the volume cranked and nothing plugged in. I only did it to test.

Yeah I realized a static voice when nothing is plugged in and I turn my lights on at the same time.

its internal its not the ipod cable its the radio itself...i bet you 50 bucks if you take apart the radio its two pieces of wire just soldered on to the connection, without sufficient insulation all audio equipment tend to do these kinds of things due to little to no insulation allowing static noise to enter through the wiring, it may sound stupid but its true i work in a studio and studied becoming an audio engineer.

P.S also what can cause the problem since it is an open connection its bringing in noise from the input of the AUX, when you leave the AUX cable plugged in does it still give you that issue?

It only happens when nothing is plugged in

yea i know what you mean, since there is nothing plugged in its an open hole allowing sound from the outside to get sucked in...if you can get an iPod dust rubber (its a rubber piece that fits in the iPod to prevent dust from going in the headphone jack) it should keep that static out from your radio
