Default Sirius XM Antenna Discreet Location

Im looking for a good location inside the car to mount the SiriusXm antenna. Right now I have it on the center of the back deck but with tinted windows the antenna is having a hard time keeping a signal. I even tried mounting it behind the rearview mirror with no luck. I hate like hell to mount the antenna outside the car so if anyone has a clever idea on where I can get a good signal and to keep the antenna inside the car would be awesome. I was thinking of mounting it to the sun shade of the sunroof, I think it would have clearance and it would get a sky view all the time, best part is you'd never see it.

Any thoughts?

I tried several spots in the car... No luck. I have mine right above the windshield on the passenger side and run the wire down the window trim. It looks pretty clean.

Isn't the sunshade tinted anyway? You would most likely have the same problem as the rear windshield

I got the same issue also. I have mine mounted in the corner of the dash with the wires routed down the sides. I really don't wanna mount to the outside.

Still don't think the reception would be good. Inside the car. Antenna's Have to have a ground to them just sitting on the dash. Would greatly diminish the reception. I have mine on the roof passenger side all the way to the back in the corner an runs under the trim into the trunk..

I install these daily with no issues. Some cars have issues going this route, but very few. The antenna doesn't need a ground either.

Whelp I can't take it anymore. Im going to install a OEM Sirius antenna (999U9-VS001) but before I order the antenna does anyone know what color it comes in? Or will it be black and I have to paint it to the color of the car. I did a scan on google for a image of that part# and nothing comes up.

No offense but any antenna that transmits or receives a signal should be grounded.. It's common sense.. Rather you do it or not. Is another. Why have 2 or 3 bars when you could have full reception. Just my opinion... An antenna can work without a ground but not to its fullest...

Satellite radio is not like FM/AM. It doesn't' use ground, it uses satellite signal.

The install took me about a hr to do. I measured a million times to make sure it was centered and not hitting anything on the inside.

the factory antenna comes with a pigtail and plug, I cut the plug off and stripped back the insulation. On the SiriusXm antenna I just cut the antenna off and then soldered the ends together.

Since I installed the antenna on Saturday the signal has not dropped out once.

LOVE IT>

I'm on here but not as much, the cars getting older and the mods are getting limited.

Anyway, my neighbor works for the local Nissan parts department here and I got it from him already color matched to the car. Drilling the hole, hell that shaved off a couple years of my life with the stress that came with it. Like I said in my earlier post, measure, measure, measure and did I say measure. The mounting stud on the antenna is about 1" dia and you don't want to have to fix that hole.

Good luck and measure.

Wellllllll, I used the factory antenna on a Kenwood head unit and not the factory radio. In order to do this I had to cut the pigtail off the factory antenna and solder it to the Sirius antenna cable that came with the Sirius module.

If your not using a after market head unit you'll need to pull the carpet down from the back deck and see if you have the wire harness and Sirius module. If you have the wire harness prewired than all you need is the Sirius module and the rest of plug and play.

Hope this helps.

Hey man i figure since you install these every day you might be able to explain this to me better.. so i have an 06 maxima.. it has BOSE and the SAT button.. when hit the SAT button, on the display screen it says NO SAT. on the driver door jam it has the sticker that says the car is pre wired for satellite radio.. i have no clue what that means.. i was told i needed get an antenna, so i ordered one.. it should be here any day now.. Once i get the antenna where do i plug it into?

do i plug it into the module in the trunk? if so where? i looked at it and don't see any more ports for something to be plugged into.

OR..... do i have to get a new module for the trunk? if i do need a new one of those where can i get it?

this is so annoying i can't find any of the information i need anywhere. if you can help that would be sick.. thank you

If you have checked in the trunk and you do have the satellite module, the new antenna would plug in there, but there should already be an antenna plugged in from the factory.

Not sure why it wouldn't be working.

If it was an antenna issue it would say something like "missing antenna" "no antenna" or something along those lines.

I guess there is a chance it could be the module but I'd hate to see you throwing money at things just to diagnose it.

I would do a quick check of all your fuses first.

Default Re: Sirius XM Antenna Discreet Location

If you have an oem satellite module in the car already it won't have a place to plug an antenna because there is one plugged in already.

I would look for a bad fuse first. It is pretty rare to have one of those go bad.

I don't think it is your antenna but since you've ordered one anyways, unplug the factory one and plug in your new one to see what happens. If you still are getting nothing then look into getting a new one. Maybe even check junk yards.
